The Calvin University School of Business is seeking an adjunct professor to teach ACCT 204: FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING, a four‑credit course that allows students to identify stakeholders in the accounting communication process and articulate how financial accounting supports the Biblical principle of stewardship. This course communicates how to analyze business transactions and identify the impact on financial statement components, evaluate the need for accruals and deferrals and make appropriate adjustments. Students will also gain introductory knowledge in preparing the balance sheet, income statement, statement of stockholder’s equity and statement of cash flows. Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of excel to perform certain accounting/financial functions and be able to perform ratio and percentage analyses to assess an entity’s financial position and performance.

This is an in-person course, which will meet three times a week in the School of Business building during the spring 2027 semester (January 19 - May 6). 

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or above in accounting or a bachelor’s degree and five or more years of accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively using diverse pedagogies and instructional technologies.
  • Familiarity with responsible accounting frameworks, ethics, and governance preferred.
  • Commitment to Christian faith and willingness to integrate faith with learning in alignment with Calvin’s Reformed tradition. Candidates are expected to affirm the Apostle’s Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare course materials and employ appropriate pedagogical strategies to promote student success in university-level courses.
  • Fulfill administrative duties such as tracking attendance, submitting grades, and maintaining timely communication with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Comply with Calvin University employment requirements, including mandatory online training modules.
  • Support the mission of Calvin University, including commitment to the development of a diverse, multicultural community.
