Description:

Radiation Therapist Summary:

The radiation therapist administers ionizing radiation to the patient and collaborates with the medical physicist, dosimetrist and radiation oncologist in the preparation and delivery of radiation treatments. This role performs services for patients from all age groups.

  • Per Diem

What the Radiation Therapist will do:

  • Delivers the prescribed course of radiation therapy.

  • Performs final patient chart check before treatment initiates.

  • Prepares room and equipment for the patient.

  • Confirms assurance of correct treatment delivery by performing a pre-treatment timeout.

  • Documents patient treatment within the specific record and verify system.

  • Participates in radiation therapy student education when needed.

  • Maintains treatment and simulator supplies, and requests reorder as needed.

  • Participates in the simulation of radiation therapy patients as directed by the lead therapist.

  • Reports erratic or unexpected operation of equipment to the medical physicist and documents the errors.

What the Radiation Therapist will need:

  • Completion of American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (A.R.R.T.) Approved Radiological Technology Program.

  • Registered or registry eligible in Radiation Oncology (Must be registered within 180 days of appointment in this position). Must maintain 24 continuing education credits per biennium to retain registry.

  • Certification or re-certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within three months of hire, as well as maintain ongoing recertification.

  • Completion of clinical rotation in an approved radiation therapy program.

  • Ability to lift up to a maximum of 35lbs. and perform push/pull tasks that require a maximum force of 35 lbs.
