Position Summary
The Irrigation Foreman is responsible for leading the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and/or commercial irrigation systems. This role supervises a field crew, manages daily job-site operations, and ensures irrigation projects are completed safely, efficiently, within budget, and to DeHamer Landscaping’s quality standards.
The Irrigation Foreman serves as the primary on-site leader and point of contact for irrigation-related work, while modeling DeHamer Landscaping’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values in every interaction with team members and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Job-Site Management
- Supervise and lead an irrigation crew on daily job sites
- Plan and manage loading and unloading of trucks and trailers with required equipment and materials
- Ensure safety, productivity, and quality standards are met on every job
- Inspect daily work to ensure installations and repairs meet company standards
- Train, mentor, and lead crew members in proper irrigation methods, safety procedures, and best practices
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of trucks, trailers, equipment, and job sites
- Inventory of Irrigation material used on-site and in trailer
Irrigation Installation, Maintenance & Repair
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation systems including:
- Sprinkler and drip systems
- Valves, controllers, pumps, and mainlines
- Read and interpret irrigation blueprints, plans, layouts, and specifications
- Ensure proper system coverage and water efficiency.
- Program, adjust, and troubleshoot standard and smart irrigation controllers
Communication & Customer Service
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for irrigation projects
- Provide clear updates on job progress, timelines, and any issues
- Communicate material needs, progress, and challenges to management
Administrative & Performance Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate job records material usage, and job notes
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget
- Enforce safety policies and promote a safe working environment
- Approach challenges with a troubleshooting and problem-solving mindset
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on irrigation installation
- Previous crew leadership or foreman experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of irrigation components, and basic electrical systems
- Ability to read irrigation plans and site drawings
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (chauffeur’s license required)
- Ability to operate required tools and equipment including trenchers and hand tools
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working outdoors in Michigan weather conditions
Physical Requirements
- Ability to bend, kneel, stand, and work for extended periods
- Comfortable working in trenches and on uneven terrain
