We are seeking a dedicated and patient-focused Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Occupational Health team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified PA who enjoys patient interaction, clinical services, and working in a professional, team-oriented environment.
About the Role
The Physician Assistant will support services within our Occupational Health lab helping provide efficient, accurate, and compassionate care to occupational health clients.
The role involves supporting the collection and processing of specimens used for drug screening, occupational health testing, and phlebotomy services. The position also requires strong communication, attention to detail, accurate record keeping, data entry, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while working with patients and employer clients.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:

Providing professional, compassionate service to Occupational Health clients and patients

Performing or assisting with blood specimen collection

Collecting urine, hair, breath, and blood samples for drug screening and occupational health purposes, as trained and within applicable scope and protocols

Properly identifying patients and specimens

Following established specimen collection, handling, labeling, storage, and chain-of-custody procedures

Performing appropriate patient assessments and clinical evaluations within the PA's scope of practice

Maintaining accurate and timely patient and occupational health records

Completing data entry, reports, and required documentation

Assisting with telephone and other communications with patients, Occupational Health clients, providers, and members of the healthcare team

Maintaining organized filing systems and ensuring appropriate document handling

Demonstrating effective operation of department-specific equipment

Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with HIPAA and applicable organizational policies

Following established clinical, safety, infection-control, and laboratory procedures

Providing a positive, professional, and patient-centered experience

Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals

Performing other duties consistent with the position and department needs
Position Qualifications
Education
-
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
-
Ability to read and understand written clinical and administrative information

Strong verbal and written communication skills
-
Proficiency with computer systems and data entry

Medical background with experience in phlebotomy, drug screening, specimen collection, or document handling preferred
Experience
-
Previous healthcare or clinical experience preferred

Experience with phlebotomy, occupational health, drug screening, or specimen collection preferred

Proficiency with computers and telephone systems

Ability to effectively operate department-specific equipment

Understanding of filing systems, document organization, and appropriate document handling

Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality

Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a team-oriented environment
Licenses & Certifications
-
Current Illinois Physician Assistant license
-
Current Physician Assistant certification, as applicable
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Note: The original qualifications provided for this position reference Medical Assistant certification (AMT or ARMA). Because this posting is being developed specifically for a Physician Assistant position, the PA licensure and certification requirements above should be used as the primary qualifications. If the PA will also be required to perform duties under a Medical Assistant credential, that requirement can be added separately.
