  • Use the nursing process and clinical judgment to make decisions within the scope of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, physicians, and members of the interdisciplinary care team

  • Assess patient care needs and appropriately assign responsibilities to LPNs, Behavioral Health Technicians, Behavioral Health Specialists, and Nurse Externs

  • Provide direction and accountability for care delivered by members of the nursing team

  • Serve as a resource and support to newly hired, supplemental, and reassigned staff

  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and respectful environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers

  • Utilize Behavioral Health Crisis Prevention Intervention skills, including verbal de-escalation and, when necessary, restraint, seclusion, and take-down procedures

  • Participate in post-intervention care and ongoing competency training

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow established policies, procedures, and instructions

  • Complete required orientation and ongoing education

  • Maintain composure and sound clinical judgment in stressful or rapidly changing situations

  • Organize and prioritize assigned responsibilities while maintaining regular attendance

  • May be required to rotate shifts based on departmental needs

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Manager or Service Director

What You Bring

  • Successful completion of an accredited registered nursing program

  • Current Illinois RN license

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross prior to hire

  • Current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification or willingness to complete CPI within 30 days of hire

  • Ability to successfully complete competency training in restraint, seclusion, and take-down procedures upon hire and as required on an ongoing basis

  • Understanding of the physical, social, and psychological needs of adult and geriatric patients

  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate, and individualized patient care

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to assess, prioritize, delegate, and coordinate patient care effectively

  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations

  • Basic computer skills and ability to use applicable software programs

  • A positive, team-oriented attitude and commitment to treating patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers with respect
