Description

The Director of Digital Transformation is a strategic leadership role within the IT Department of Cibola General Hospital. This position is responsible for driving the hospital’s technology vision to enhance clinical care, operational efficiency, and organizational communication. The Director will lead technology modernization initiatives, optimize Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, manage vendor relationships, promote AI adoption, and significantly improve internal transparency and collaboration through modern digital tools.


This role requires a forward-thinking technology leader who understands the unique challenges and regulatory environment of rural healthcare and Critical Access Hospitals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Technology Modernization: Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive digital transformation strategy aligned with the hospital’s mission, clinical needs, and operational goals. Identify and implement emerging technologies to modernize legacy systems and infrastructure.
  • EHR Optimization & Integration: Oversee the optimization, enhancement, and integration of the hospital’s Electronic Health Record system. Ensure seamless interoperability with other clinical and operational platforms while maintaining compliance with HIPAA, Meaningful Use, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Vendor Management: Manage third-party vendor contracts and relationships, including negotiation, performance monitoring, cost optimization, and risk management. Ensure vendors deliver high-quality services that align with hospital priorities.
  • Internal Communication & Transparency: Lead initiatives to significantly improve organization-wide communication by leveraging tools such as SharePoint, Intranet platforms, Microsoft 365 Suite, Power BI dashboards, and other collaboration technologies. Design and implement solutions that promote real-time information sharing, transparency, and employee engagement.
  • AI and Innovation Adoption: Champion the adoption of Artificial Intelligence and automation solutions to drive operational efficiencies, reduce administrative burden, improve clinical decision support, and enhance patient outcomes. Identify high-impact use cases and lead pilot programs through to enterprise deployment.
  • Project & Change Management: Direct cross-functional digital transformation projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery with strong stakeholder engagement. Provide effective change management support to ensure successful technology adoption across clinical and administrative teams.
  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with executive leadership, clinical staff, and department heads to align technology initiatives with hospital strategic objectives. Develop and present technology roadmaps, budgets, and ROI analyses to senior leadership.
  • Compliance & Security: Ensure all digital initiatives maintain the highest standards of data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in IT leadership, digital transformation, or healthcare informatics.
  • Strong experience with EHR systems (e.g., Cerner or similar) and EHR optimization/integration projects.
  • Proven track record managing vendor contracts and technology implementations in a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft 365 ecosystem (SharePoint, Teams, Power Platform, etc.) and dashboard/analytics tools.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare environment.
  • Hands-on experience driving AI, automation, or advanced analytics initiatives in healthcare.
  • Project Management (PMP) or Healthcare IT certifications (e.g., CPHIMS, CHCIO) are highly desirable.
