Apprentice Medical Assistant – Get Paid to Learn. Get Trained. Build Your Career.

Location: Great Falls, MT
Job Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Schedule: 40 Paid Hours Per Week – 30 Hours Working + 10 Hours Education/Training

You don’t have to already be a Medical Assistant to become one.

If you’re interested in healthcare, enjoy working with people, and want a career with room to grow, Alluvion Health’s Medical Assistant Apprenticeship may be the perfect place to start.

Alluvion Health is seeking an Apprentice Medical Assistant to join our clinical team in Great Falls, Montana. This structured apprenticeship combines hands-on work, education, competency development, and real-world patient care experience to help you progress into the Medical Assistant role and prepare for national certification.

Even better, your education and training are part of your paid workweek.

As a full-time Apprentice Medical Assistant, you are paid for 40 hours each week, with:

  • 30 hours per week working and gaining hands-on healthcare experience
  • 10 paid hours per week dedicated to education and apprenticeship training

You’ll be working, learning, and building your healthcare career at the same time.

How the Apprenticeship Works

Most apprentices begin in the Patient Access Specialist role. This gives you the opportunity to learn our patients, our systems, the electronic medical record, scheduling, insurance and financial processes, and how a busy healthcare clinic operates.

Each week, your 40 paid hours are divided between approximately 30 hours of hands-on work and 10 hours of dedicated education and training through the apprenticeship program.

From there, you’ll progressively move into Medical Assistant education and clinical training as you complete the required competencies.

By the end of 2,000 hours of work and training, you will be qualified to pursue the nationally recognized Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification exam.

It’s a defined pathway designed to take you beyond an entry-level healthcare job and help you build a professional clinical career.

Have Previous Healthcare Experience?

Your previous experience may count.

Candidates with at least two years of qualifying experience, including a combined two years among eligible healthcare roles, may qualify for 1,000 hours of on-the-job training credit.

Qualifying experience may include:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Medication Technician
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Medical Assistant
  • Patient Access Specialist
  • Care Coordinator

Depending on validated prior experience, an apprentice may also qualify to begin directly in the Medical Assistant portion of the program.

What You’ll Do Along the Way

Building Your Patient Access Foundation

You’ll develop experience in areas such as:

  • Greeting patients and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Scheduling appointments.
  • Answering incoming calls and responding to messages.
  • Gathering and verifying patient demographic, insurance, and financial information.
  • Working within the electronic medical record.
  • Assisting patients with the Sliding Fee Discount Program process.
  • Collecting co-pays, fees, and payments.
  • Connecting patients with appropriate staff and community resources.
  • Protecting confidential patient information and following HIPAA requirements.
  • Supporting the day-to-day administrative needs of the clinic.

Growing Into the Medical Assistant Role

As your apprenticeship progresses, you’ll receive training and experience that may include:

  • Providing direct patient care in the clinical setting.
  • Preparing patients for visits.
  • Obtaining height, weight, vital signs, and other clinical information.
  • Documenting patient information in the electronic medical record.
  • Following established Medical Assistant protocols.
