 Position Overview

Bascom Hunter is seeking a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team. This in-person role will focus on the design, development, and management of turbomachinery, compressors, electric motors, generators and marine propulsion for Aerospace & Defense applications. The Mechanical Design Engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-performance systems that meet demanding operational and environmental requirements.

This is a great opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical foundation and project management skills to play a key role in developing complex, mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, aero, electrical, and systems engineers, to develop technical solutions and integrated systems.
  • Perform design, analysis, system integration, and validation testing for power and propulsion systems products, including turbomachinery, compressors, generators, marine outboard engines, motors, and propulsors.
  • Develop technical specifications, system requirements, and design documentation in accordance with Aerospace & Defense standards.
  • Coordinate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to track progress, resolve issues, and communicate project status.
  • Support prototype fabrication, instrumentation, testing, and qualification activities.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain strict adherence to industry regulations, military standards, and company quality processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience, preferably in Aerospace & Defense Industry.
  • Experience managing engineering projects from concept through delivery.
  • Strong technical knowledge in thermal systems, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, or mechanical systems design.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods, such as casting, forging, stamping, welding, CNC machining, EDM, and additive manufacturing
  • Proficiency in engineering tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, or equivalent.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship required (due to DoD contract requirements).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience with ANSYS FEA
  • Experience with military standards (MIL-STD), AS9100 quality systems, and environmental qualification testing.
  • Familiarity with motor integration, power systems, or electronic packaging
