Position Summary

The Security Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting security operations while ensuring the safety and security of personnel, facilities, assets, and company operations. Serving as the highest-ranking security representative on duty in the absence of higher-ranking security leadership, this position provides operational guidance, immediate operational decision-making, coordinates emergency response, oversees physical security systems, and ensures the consistent enforcement of company policies, security procedures, and regulatory requirements.

The position serves as the primary point of contact for security-related matters during assigned working hours, maintaining operational continuity between shifts while reducing unnecessary escalations to senior management through sound judgment, effective coordination, and timely decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support security personnel through coaching, mentoring, training, and providing operational guidance.
  • Serve as the on-site security authority in the absence of higher-ranking security management, making independent operational decisions regarding incidents, emergencies, facility access, employee safety concerns, and operational disruptions.
  • Coordinate and direct responses to security incidents, alarms, medical emergencies, fire alarms, severe weather, and other critical events while communicating with leadership and external emergency responders as necessary.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations involving policy violations, accidents, theft, property damage, safety concerns, and security incidents; complete detailed reports and preserve evidence when appropriate.
  • Oversee facility access control, badging, visitor management, CCTV systems, intrusion detection systems, alarm monitoring, key control, and other physical security technologies to ensure proper operation and compliance.
  • Perform routine patrols, facility inspections, security assessments, and compliance audits to identify vulnerabilities, verify adherence to security procedures, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate after-hours vendor access, contractor activities, maintenance projects, deliveries, and special operational requests while ensuring all security protocols are followed.
  • Verify secure loads, shipments, trailers, and transportation activities to ensure compliance with established security procedures and chain-of-custody requirements.
  • Ensure all required patrols, inspections, inventories, seal verifications, access audits, and security documentation are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Monitor operational readiness and communicate staffing shortages or operational concerns to management as appropriate.
  • Review daily activity reports, incident reports, shift logs, and operational documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain accountability for department equipment including radios, keys, access credentials, security vehicles, emergency equipment, and other assigned assets.
  • Train and onboard newly assigned security personnel while reinforcing departmental policies, procedures, and operational expectations.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, customer service, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend procedural improvements to strengthen security operations, communication, and overall department effectiveness.
  • Support emergency preparedness initiatives through planning, drills, training, and response coordination.
  • Foster effective communication between all security shifts by ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of operational information, incidents, policy updates, procedural changes, and leadership expectations.
  • Build strong working relationships with Production, Shipping, Maintenance, Facilities, Human Resources, Safety, and other departments to ensure effective coordination of security operations.
  • Perform Security Officer duties as necessary to support operational requirements.
  • Provide visible operational leadership and maintain a consistent security presence during assigned working hours.
  • Exercise sound judgment and independent operational decision-making in the absence of higher-ranking security leadership.
  • Resolve operational issues at the lowest practical level while escalating significant matters when appropriate.
  • Ensure consistent enforcement of company policies, security procedures, post orders, and departmental standards.
  • Mentor officers to improve operational knowledge, professionalism, and procedural consistency.
  • Monitor compliance with departmental expectations and report personnel concerns to management for review.
  • Prepare shift summaries and operational briefings to ensure seamless transitions between shifts and provide leadership with a clear understanding of security activities.
  • Provide strong computer and technical proficiency, including the ability to efficiently use Microsoft Office applications, security systems, and other software platforms to develop, maintain, and manage security documentation, standard operating procedures, policies, reports, spreadsheets, and operational records.
