MASS Tech is seeking a Senior Electrical Hardware Design Engineer.

This position will support the design, development, validation, troubleshooting, and manufacturing release of electrical hardware products. The engineer will work with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective hardware solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical hardware designs, CAD models, schematics, cable drawings, and engineering drawings for manufacturing release.
  • Prepare schematics for new circuit designs using CADSTAR and OrCAD.
  • Perform linear and nonlinear circuit simulations using ADS, LTspice, and PSpice.
  • Design and validate mixed-signal circuits, power supplies, processor-based systems, and cable assemblies.
  • Evaluate product requirements, technical risks, problem definitions, and operational feasibility to recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Troubleshoot board-level and system-level hardware failures.
  • Evaluate field-returned units and verify reported issues through structured diagnostic and failure-analysis processes.
  • Review error logs, debug files, and test results to identify defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop Python scripts and diagnostic tools to support product testing and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct DFx, Design for Manufacturability, FMEA, DOE, design reviews, and validation activities.
  • Prepare and maintain product Bill of Materials structures, including parent-child relationships, quantities, costs, compliance information, and component lifecycle risks.
  • Review BOM compliance roll-ups and maintain product data within PLM and BOM management systems.
  • Support user administration, data corrections, and BOM updates when required.
  • Follow applicable Engineering Change Notice processes and configuration-management standards.
  • Identify component alternatives and product or process improvement opportunities that reduce cost and improve quality.
  • Prepare production test plans to verify product functionality and performance.
  • Develop and maintain product manuals, operational manuals, requirements documents, design documents, and other engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, software, supply chain, service, and project teams throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Five to ten years of experience in electrical product design, development, validation, and implementation.
  • Hands-on experience with mixed-signal circuits, power supply designs, processor-based systems, and cable designs.
  • Experience using schematic-design tools such as CADSTAR and OrCAD.
  • Experience using circuit-simulation tools such as ADS, LTspice, or PSpice.
  • Strong experience in board-level and system-level troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience preparing engineering drawings, BOMs, test plans, and product documentation.
  • Working knowledge of product lifecycle management, configuration control, and ECN release processes.
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and recommend practical, manufacturable solutions.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with PLM and BOM management systems.
  • Python scripting experience for diagnostics or test automation.
  • Experience with DFx, Design for Manufacturability, FMEA, and DOE.
  • Experience identifying and qualifying lower-cost alternatives for commercial components such as monitors, printers, card readers, and scanners.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, field service, and product-return investigations.

Benefits
