About the role

Core Education is seeking a Technical Services Manager to lead the operation and continuous improvement of our information technology services and infrastructure at Greensboro College. This role is a critical bridge between technology and the campus community — driving innovation, ensuring reliable systems, and directly supporting our mission of student empowerment and achievement.

You'll oversee the day-to-day performance of our IT infrastructure, lead a small team of technical professionals, and help guide the college's digital transformation through smart technology adoption and vendor management.

What you'll do

  • Maintain 99%+ uptime of critical IT infrastructure — networks, servers, security systems, and end-user devices — through proactive monitoring, optimization, and incident response
  • Research, evaluate, and implement modern technologies that measurably improve business and academic operations
  • Manage technology procurement and vendor relationships, negotiating contracts and ensuring compliance with licensing agreements and service level standards
  • Develop and enforce IT policies, procedures, and technical standards that strengthen security, efficiency, and the user experience across campus
  • Lead and develop a team of technical professionals (Network Administrator and Technical Support Specialist), building a culture of technical excellence and service
  • Deliver data-driven reporting and analytics that inform technology strategy and demonstrate the value of IT to college stakeholders
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across network infrastructure, hardware, software, and telecommunications
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of software licenses and hardware assets, tracking renewals and ensuring compliance
  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance and manage after-hours support for time-sensitive projects

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent combination of training and experience)
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure and services
  • Demonstrated experience with Windows Server environments, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, DHCP, and virtualization technologies
  • Proven experience with VPNs, firewalls, and network security technologies
  • Experience supporting multiple operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), browsers, and end-user devices
  • Background in software procurement, licensing management, and vendor coordination
  • Experience with data systems, reporting tools, and analytics

Preferred:

  • PMP or similar project management certification
  • Security certification (Security+, CISSP, CEH, or equivalent)
  • ITIL Foundation certification or higher
  • Scripting or development experience (PowerShell, Python, etc.)
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience

Skills That Will Help You Succeed

  • Strong analytical and systematic troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and manage projects to deadline
  • Self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • A collaborative team player who's equally comfortable working independently
  • A customer-service mindset — patient and empathetic with end users
  • A continuous-learning mentality in a fast-changing technology landscape

Work Environment

  • Based on the Greensboro College campus in Greensboro, NC
  • Occasional evening and weekend work for system maintenance, upgrades, and urgent support needs
  • Availability for after-hours emergency response as needed
  • Ability to lift/move IT equipment up to 50 lbs, and to access network infrastructure in server rooms, under desks, or via ladder
