The Director of Nursing (DON) for Family First Homecare is a highly experienced and strategic leader responsible for the overall administrative direction of all clinical operations and patient care. This pivotal role involves the direct management and training of all clinical team members.
The Director of Nursing (DON) will ensure strict adherence to state, local, and federal regulations and establish the necessary frameworks to guarantee patient safety and meet all government surveys related to clinical home health. A key focus will be on the delivery of high-quality nursing services and developing and implementing standardized, comprehensive, and effective training programs to maintain exceptional standards of care and operational efficiency. The director will work in close partnership with the Director of Operations.
Family First Homecare team members represent the organization and its services in a competent, professional and responsive manner while maintaining standards of high-quality patient care and customer service in accordance with all state, local and federal requirements, rules and regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide comprehensive administrative direction and oversight for all clinical operations and patient care services within the agency(s) and branch offices, ensuring efficient operation and compliance with all State, Federal, and Accreditation standards.
- Lead the delivery of quality clinical services across assigned agency(s) and branch offices, partnering with the Director of Operations (DOO) to lead cohesive teams toward common goals.
- Develop, implement, and oversee standardized, comprehensive, and effective training programs for Clinical Managers and all field clinicians to ensure high-quality patient care and skills development, including adherence to the competency program.
- Provide leadership, training, guidance, and mentoring to Clinical Managers.
- Collaborate with Family First leadership teams and the compliance committee in identifying, developing, and delivering consistent clinical information.
- Oversee the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program for each assigned agency, identifying clinical and quality metrics trends and ensuring appropriate corrective action is implemented.
- Coordinate and oversee all plans of correction and quality initiatives.
- Partner with the Director of Operations (DOO) in identifying, interviewing, and onboarding Clinical Managers and Care Givers.
- Promote employee engagement and retention.
- Participate in the development and review of policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Assist management with the development and implementation of new products and services.
- Maintain professional, supportive, and responsive interpersonal communication skills.
- Working with the Chief Nursing Office and Vice President of Clinical, maintain written documentation that clearly specifies the responsibilities and authority of the Agency Director of Nursing and defines the order of authority in the absence of the administrator.
- May be required to serve in the absence of an Agency Director of Nursing or Director of Nursing over another agency or branch either in person or via telecommunications device when needed.
- May be required to support mergers, acquisitions, and integration projects.
- Specific to North Caroline DONs: Oversee and, if applicable, directly supervise various home care services, particularly those involving nursing care, as outlined in the North Carolina Administrative Code, section .1100 of the Subchapter, whether provided directly or by contract.

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
- NOTE: See state specific requirements below.
- RN Nursing Degree. Unencumbered RN License in the state of employment or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact where recognized.
- Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of supervision as an RN. Experience may vary by state. See state specific requirements below.
- Working knowledge of home care regulatory and federal requirements
- Proven customer service skills, sound independent judgment, initiative and solid organization and time management skills
- Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driver license with proof of insurance
- Ability to travel to Family First office locations and patient homes throughout designated area
- Clear background screening
- Must provide valid and current CPR card/certificate that includes in person instructor led hands-on skills check
- Clear Hep B Screening and Clear TB Screening
- Forward thinker with the ability to be creative and “think outside the box”
- Excellent organization, problem-solving, decision-making, presentation, and communication skills
- Possess outstanding leadership, teaching, and training skills
PREFERRED
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
STATE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
FLORIDA: N/A
ILLINOIS: Required: 1 year of pediatric experience
NORTH CAROLINA: A minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience in home care or any other provider licensed pursuant to G.S. 131E or G.S. 122C, with a significant portion of this experience related to nursing services required OR bachelor's degree with at least one year of supervisory or management experience in home care or other licensed health care program with a clear emphasis on nursing or direct patient care management.
- IMPORTANT NOTE SPECIFIC TO NC: 10A NCAC 13J .1001(c)(d) - (c) The agency shall designate a person responsible for supervising each type of home care service contained in Section .1100 of this Subchapter that is provided by the agency either directly or by contract. This individual may be the supervisor for one or more home care services and may also serve as the agency director. (d) There shall be written documentation that specifies the responsibilities and authority of the agency director and supervisor.
- In the State of North Carolina, the equivalent job title to the Director of Nursing (DON) is Agency Director of Nursing, RN Service Supervisor.
PENNSYLVANIA:
- Additional Background Screening: Child Abuse, and FBI check.
- Must complete TB screening with 2 step PPD, or 1 step PPD with proof of 2 step PPD administration within the last year.

WORKING CONDITIONS/EQUIPMENT USE
- The role operates primarily in an office setting, with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday during core business hours. The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is essential to meet business needs. Occasional travel to client homes, healthcare facilities, the corporate office in Tampa, Florida and other branch locations, both in and out of state, may be required.
- Position is stressful in terms of meeting deadlines.
- It is primarily a desk job which essentially involves sitting, standing, stooping, and walking, as well as an inordinate amount of telephone communication.
- It requires minimal lifting of office records and printouts.
- Must ability to read 12 point and larger type, communicate clearly and be able to hear adequately on the telephone with no more than an amplifier.
