POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Stationary Engineer stabilizes the operation of the boilers, pumps, air compressors, fans, and roof top units for campus buildings, emphasizing efficiency and safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Transcribes a Boiler Room Shift Report and a Building Status Report, for the Main Boiler Plant, Bayley Hall, Lynch Hall, Reeves Library, St. Mary’s Hall, Havey and Brownlee Halls, Farrell Hall, DeChantal Hall, Boyle Center, Performing Arts Center (PAC), Dance & Visual Arts Center (DVAC), Field House, 131 Building, and the Administration Building.
  • Maintains the proper operation of boiler, plumbing, electrical systems and emergency generators on campus.
  • Responds to unanticipated calls from students, faculty, and staff concerning heat complications.
  • Checks all gas, water and steam lines during rounds.
  • Performs chemical tests on disassembled and reassembled boilers.
  • Responds to other maintenance inquiries/concerns/emergencies as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid PA Driver's License
  • High School Diploma
  • Stationary Engineer’s and a PA State Association license
  • Knowledge and experience in various trade, mechanical, chemical, and mathematical skills
  • Flexibility to work daylight, nights, weekends, overtime, or as needed to work independently
  • Computer knowledge to operate the Campus Energy Management System
  • Experience in using hand and power tools since the position requires affixing pipelines

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability when necessary to lift between 50-80 pounds
