EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-time

LOCATION:  On-site with some flexibility for remote work 1-2 days per week

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Vice President and General Counsel (VPGC) and/or Staff Attorney, the Law Clerk provides broad legal research and advisory support to the attorneys in all legal matters handled by the Office of the General Counsel, including: academic and corporate governance, personnel and employment issues, benefits, student affairs, non-discrimination, conflicts of interest, gifts and development, immigration, contracts, tax and payroll matters, insurance, construction, corporate and commercial transactions, real estate and zoning matters, environmental issues, risk management and reduction, compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations (including but not limited to Title IX, the Clery Act, FERPA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans With Disabilities Act), copyright and other intellectual property matters, information technology, NCAA Division II compliance, and litigation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Drafts contracts, forms, policies, and other legal documents.
  • Conducts legal research and analysis, providing recommendations for resolving various legal issues handled by the OGC.
  • Assists with the management of electronic databases for contracts and other ongoing projects.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled student who has completed their first-year coursework at an accredited law school; including the following relevant courses: Civil Procedure and Drafting, Civil Procedure II, Contracts I and II, and Legal Research and Writing I and II
  • Technology skills, including experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • Time management skills
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
  • Legal research and analysis skills
  • Attention to detail

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Coursework includes Administrative Law, Advanced Legal Writing: Legal Drafting, Business Associations, Constitutional Law I and II, Employment Law, In-House Counsel in Modern Corporations, and Legislation and Regulation.
