Freedom Behavioral Hospital is seeking a dependable and motivated Maintenance Technician to support the safety, functionality, and appearance of our hospital campus. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors while ensuring compliance with healthcare safety standards and Environment of Care regulations.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing general maintenance and repairs on facility equipment, buildings, and grounds. Duties include preventative maintenance, life safety system oversight, minor HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting repairs, and responding to maintenance emergencies. The position works under the supervision of the Environment of Care Director and supports daily hospital operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on hospital equipment and facility systems
  • Maintain and monitor life safety systems including fire alarms, sprinklers, generators, and extinguishers
  • Complete preventative maintenance inspections and work orders timely
  • Assist with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting projects
  • Maintain hospital grounds, landscaping, and exterior appearance
  • Conduct safety inspections and identify hazards or repair needs
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, CMS, and Environment of Care standards
  • Track generator testing, water temperatures, safety logs, and maintenance records
  • Work with outside vendors and contractors as needed
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and safety drills
  • Support a culture of safety, teamwork, and customer service
  • Assist with moving equipment, furniture, and other operational needs
  • Attend required meetings, training, and hospital safety committee activities

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience in maintenance, building trades, or healthcare facility operations preferred
  • EPA Certification preferred
  • Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems strongly preferred

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond quickly to emergencies
  • Strong attention to safety and compliance standards

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform physical labor throughout the shift
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
  • Must be able to safely operate maintenance equipment and tools
