Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Estimating Manager to lead estimating activities supporting complex power and industrial construction projects. This position oversees the development of competitive Lump Sum, Fixed Fee, and Time & Material (T&M) estimates while helping drive profitable growth and successful project execution.

The Estimating Manager will lead and develop the estimating team, establish bid and estimating strategies, review final estimate packages, and ensure estimates accurately reflect project scope, customer requirements, labor requirements, market conditions, and contractual obligations.

The ideal candidate brings significant industrial construction estimating experience, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to develop accurate, competitive estimates for complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage estimating activities to produce accurate, competitive, and timely project estimates.
  • Review and approve final estimate packages before formal quotation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project scope.
  • Develop estimating and bid strategies that support regional growth and profitability objectives.
  • Evaluate project opportunities and provide recommendations regarding project pursuit and bidding decisions.
  • Lead, coach, train, and mentor estimators while assigning work based on experience, workload, and development needs.
  • Develop and continuously improve estimating procedures, templates, pricing tools, feedback systems, and historical cost databases.
  • Perform and oversee labor analysis, cost modeling, pricing, forecasting, and scope development.
  • Analyze historical project performance and current market conditions to improve estimating accuracy.
  • Partner with purchasing, project management, operations, and vendors to obtain current pricing and strengthen estimate quality.
  • Support proposal development, client presentations, contract negotiations, and change-order pricing.
  • Monitor the financial performance of awarded projects to compare actual results against estimates and incorporate lessons learned into future bids.
  • Ensure safety, environmental responsibility, contractual requirements, and applicable standards are incorporated into estimating activities.
  • Build effective relationships with clients, vendors, operations leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Travel as needed for bid reviews, client meetings, project evaluations, and regional operational support.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of construction estimating or construction management experience required.
  • Significant experience estimating projects within industrial and/or power construction environments required.
  • Previous experience leading, supervising, or mentoring an estimating team.
  • Strong hands-on estimating background with the ability to evaluate complex project scopes - not solely planning or scheduling experience.
  • Experience with Lump Sum, Fixed Fee, and Time & Material (T&M) contract structures.
  • Experience reviewing construction contracts, specifications, drawings, scopes of work, labor requirements, and project risks.
  • Experience supporting bid strategy, proposal development, and contract negotiations.

Skills & Technical Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of construction estimating methodologies, labor analysis, cost modeling, forecasting, and pricing strategies.
  • Strong understanding of industrial construction contracts, specifications, and scope development.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, project financial controls, and profitability.
  • Ability to analyze historical cost data, project performance, and market trends to improve forecasting and estimating accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, along with industry estimating and scheduling tools.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team-development capabilities.
  • Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors, project leadership, and executive stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to perform effectively under deadline pressure.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of relevant technical training and industry experience will be considered.
  • Professional certifications related to estimating, construction, or project management are a plus.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience supporting complex power generation, industrial process, process piping, manufacturing, life sciences/pharmaceutical, or mission-critical/data center construction environments are strongly encouraged to apply.

Experience combining strong technical estimating expertise with team leadership, client relationship management, and business-development support is highly valued.

Why Join Our Team?

This is an opportunity to take a leadership role in an established construction organization supporting complex industrial and power projects. The Estimating Manager will have direct influence on bid strategy, project selection, estimating accuracy, profitability, team development, and regional growth while working closely with technical, operational, and executive leadership.
