POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the registration/insurance verification/ visits authorization for patients with a focus on customer service, gathering information, upfront collections and the ability to interpret and ensure compliance with payer guidelines for accurate input. Duties may also include telephone interviews, taking payments and discharging of patients. Works in tandem with personnel from other departments to include nursing staff. Handles patient inquiries and assist to resolve issues and/or concerns. At times required to assist therapists with providing help in caring for patients.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Ability to interpret and generate written correspondence utilizing proper grammar, spelling and composition skills. Knowledge of Payer guidelines. Computer knowledge. Experience with automated systems. Ability to operate office equipment, such as copy machines, fax machine and printers. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Good communication skills essential. Prior experience involving public contact.
Preferred Qualification: One year's experience in a hospital, insurance or office environment. Medical terminology

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

6. Continually demonstrate the ability to determine appropriate patient status. Register patients with correct account number and unit number.
7. Explain pertinent documents and hospital policies. Obtain appropriate signatures.
8. Interpret and ensure compliance with payer guidelines for accurate input.
9. Register and verify patients timely to minimize wait time.
10. Process patient information with a minimal error rate. Yearly Accuracy Rate
11. Attempt upfront collections with a focus on constant improvement.
12. Consistently discharges therapy accounts with accuracy.
13. Attends scheduled departmental meetings.
14. Works in tandem with personnel from other departments to include nursing staff.
15. Resolve issues and/or concerns amicably in a timely manner. Involves coordinator or manager when needed.
16. Promote and demonstrate excellent customer service at all times with internal and external customers to include
patients, physicians, co-workers and other hospital personnel.
17. Communicates effectively and expresses ideas clearly, actively listens and follows appropriate channels of communication.
18. Adaptable and responsive to change.
19. Uses time clock accurately and is punctual on a consistent basis.
20. Demonstrates a positive attitude in all assigned task and towards others.
21. Follows "Call-In" policy by notifying Director or Therapy coordinator.
22. Absences during evaluation period: 0-6 Occurrences = Meets Requirements. 7 or more Occurrences = Does not meet requirements.
23. Adheres to hospital and department dress code. Maintains a professional appearance at all times.
24. Consistently contributes to the achievement of excellence in healthcare through the quality and caring values of the mission and vision of Hunt Memorial Hospital District.
25. Notifies patient when issues with insurance company exist or, if possible, when there will be unexpected patient balance.
26. Works in tandem with financial counselors, personnel from other departments.
27. Handles patient and insurance inquiries. Assist to resolve issues and or concerns
Perform special duties and projects as assigned:
a. Prepares and positions patient for treatment as directed by the PT, PTA, OT or COTA.
b. Cleans work areas and prepares for next use; cleans supply area.
c. Assists with patient treatment as directed by the Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, SpeechLanguage Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
d. Assists patient with mobility skills including bed mobility, transfers, and gait as directed by PT, PTA, ST, OT, or COTA.
e. Maintains daily patient treatment documentation (relays orders, enters charges, keeps monthly statistical reports).
f. Performs clerical duties (collects and distributes mail, answers phone, complies charts, files and makes copies).
g. Ensures clean, safe working environment.
