POSITION SUMMARY
Performs and monitors a variety of laboratory testing and analysis; and assumes responsibility for problem resolution, quality control, and maintenance with minimal supervision.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in lab science or Medical Laboratory Technology
Associate's degree in lab science or Medical Laboratory Technology
Minimum Work Experience: At least three years of experience as Medical Technology or equivalent education and training
Required Licenses/Certifications: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by a nationally recognized board/agency or equivalent
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain a professional image and behavior. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Knowledge and technical proficiency in areas assigned within the laboratory. Knowledge of clinical laboratory medicine and techniques.
Preferred Qualification: At least one (1) year experience upon completion of associate degree.
 
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
1. Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.

6. Training/Teaching
7. Participates in training or teaching programs by providing instruction on basic theory, technical skills, and application of all test procedures.
8. Assists in training and documentation of competencies for student and new employees.
9. Regulatory/Accreditation/Quality
10. Identifies opportunities for improvements in the laboratory (i.e. employee training, process improvement...etc.).
11. Assists with root cause analysis of occurrence events and determines acceptable corrective actions and process improvements.
12. Understands and complies with good laboratory practice, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
13. Participate in readiness and internal and external inspections as needed.
14. Performs, documents, review, and monitor quality assurance activities under the direction of the supervisor.
15. Evaluates, plans, and validates new processes/techniques, procedures and equipment following established guidelines.
16. Communication
17. Communicates to Lab Leadership on concerns affecting laboratory operations.
18. Communicates and reports results, critical values and testing delays to physicians, nursing staff, clients, and other hospital personnel.
19. Communicates and handles problems with customers, physicians and other hospital staff and responds to their needs in a timely manner.
20. Technical Skills
21. Performs waived, moderate, and/or high complexity analytical process without direct supervision.
22. Determines suitability of specimen for analysis, following established procedures, policies, and guidelines.
23. Demonstrates skills in specimen receiving, processing, including the LIS.
24. Performs waived, moderate and/high complexity analytical process, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting per manufacturer standards, recognizes errors, troubleshoot using scientific principles and knowledge under the direction and supervision of the supervisor as appropriate.

26. Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of reagents and supplies.
