Pharmacy Supervisor – St Francis Cancer Center - Outpatient/Retail
Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the optimization of retail pharmacy operations at the facility. The supervisor will help to ensure pharmaceutical care is delivered according to federal and state regulations, hospital/retail policies and universally accepted practices and procedures. This oversight may extend to other non-acute ambulatory pharmacy services as applicable. This leader is responsible for managing and leading pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other support staff who provide patient care or supportive services for respective areas of oversight. The leader partners with site leaders to optimize patient care through clinical pharmacy services and ensuring appropriate drug storage and preparation. The supervisor will help ensure financial outcomes, pharmacy operations, and human resource management are meeting the goals of the organization. All responsibilities are accomplished in collaboration with the system-level pharmacy leadership team and local hospital leadership team.
Essential Job Functions
Provide management and oversight of all pharmacy related activities within the pharmacy and supportive of system-level initiatives involving change and provision of pharmaceutical care.
Develop and support initiatives to manage pharmacy operating budget and a reduction of pharmacy supply cost through promoting and implementing cost containment strategies that benefit the organization.
Providing leadership and support to patient care and quality initiatives in acute and non-acute areas (including but not limited to clinical activities, Meds-to-Beds, drug information and workflow enhancements to support frontline associates)
Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates recommendations for personnel actions.
Assess and standardize medication dispensing practices and pharmacy workflows, initiate department goals and encourages team member growth and development through evaluation and feedback.
Develops and establishes operation procedures consistent with accrediting bodies, as well as state and federal rules overseeing pharmacy practice.
Establishes policies to ensure adequate execution and compliance with rules and regulations and medication safety. May serve as pharmacist-in-charge for board of pharmacy compliance.
Collaborates with IT and supply chain across organization to support safe, standard, and effective medication usage and practices and the creation of efficient operations within the pharmacy.
Attends and contributes to hospital and system-level committee work as assigned.
Assists customers with complaints or questions and working within job responsibilities as noted in pharmacist job description.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (required)
Licensure/Certification:
- Pharmacist Licensure – State Board of Pharmacy (required)
Experience:
- 3 years pharmacist experience (required)
Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrates leadership competencies and skills for the position, including excellent communication, customer service, continuous quality improvement, relationship development, and decision making
- Possesses extensive knowledge of clinical practice or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment
