Product Development Engineer

 

LPX is seeking an ambitious, high-energy engineer to help in product development efforts from initial product conceptualization through to product launch and post-launch product support. The Product Development Engineer will work closely with the company's owners/founders and will be an important point of contact providing direction to our development team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate new product ideation, design, and prototype creation and manufacturing. 
  • Effectively communicate with different key members across different functions – engineering, industrial design, marketing, sourcing, leadership, suppliers, clients, etc.
  • Help to create 3D CAD designs for new product concepts and products.
  • Help to complete technical studies and prepare cost estimates.
  • Confirm product performance by designing and conducting product testing.
  • Provide overall engineering feedback to all relevant parties to ensure seamless communication of project issues.
  • Help to maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Perform competitor product research, create product landscapes and conduct end user research to identify new product opportunities and potential new features to address existing pain points or opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends; and recommending actions.
  • This is a hands-on role which will require time in the prototype and test labs building and testing prototypes and off-tool samples. Candidates must be capable of running basic shop equipment as required to meet the project goals. Candidates with experience designing, building, fabricating, and fixing their own personal projects are preferred.
  • In addition to the items listed above, the product development engineer may be periodically asked to assist with other facets of the business as necessary.

 

We have a flexible work schedule as projects vary in timing and intensity.  Some work must be done onsite at our facility but other parts of the work can be done remotely (if desired).

 

Qualifications / Skills Preferred:

  • 3D CAD (SolidWorks or OnShape preferred)
  • Product design and prototyping
  • Product requirements analysis
  • Project management
  • Manufacturing methods and procedures – plastic injection molding, metal fabrication, assembly methods, etc.
  • Technical understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Documentation skills
  • Safety and regulatory management
  • International experience
  • Strong work ethic

 

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Masters of Science in Engineering or other related discipline required
  • 2+ years of project experience developing consumer products required
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, project management software and CAD (preferably SolidWorks) required
  • Entrepreneurial background a plus
