Position Summary:
The Analytical Services Associate performs day to day activities of the BBU analytical services laboratory. This includes coordinating internal lab testing of ingredients, finished products, shelf life studies, writing/revising ingredient specifications and laboratory/department SOPs and the maintenance of all lab equipment. This position reports to the Senior Manager Analytical Services.
 
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Performs laboratory experiments utilizing standard techniques and equipment.
  • Processes, organizes and summarizes data, reporting experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or statistical software applications or program platforms.
  • Assists in the design of laboratory experiments, techniques and protocols.
  • Performs related laboratory maintenance such as maintaining and cleaning equipment and ordering supplies.
  • Interacts with other BBU departments and suppliers as required.
  • Author’s and revises raw material specifications and laboratory/department SOPs.
  • Coordinates outside testing of raw ingredients and finished products.
  • Respond to consumer inquires with respect to ingredient questions.
  • Gathers necessary documentation (vendor spec, allergen, nutritional analysis, etc.) from suppliers as part of the supplier approval process.
  • May instruct other staff and students in basic laboratory techniques.
  • Schedules and interacts in vendor meetings.
  • Processes orders or invoices for payment.

 Education and Work History:
  • 2 – 5 years experience in the food/chemical industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree, science related field preferred.
  • A combination of education, training and experience that results in demonstrated competency to perform the work may be substituted.
  • 2 years analytical/microbiology experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Well organized and detail oriented.
  • Approximately 10% travel required.
