CNC Shop Saw Operator

Position Purpose:

The Saw Operator is responsible for accurately cutting raw materials to specified dimensions using manual and automated industrial saws in a CNC machine shop environment. This position supports production operations by preparing materials for machining, maintaining equipment, ensuring quality standards, and following all safety procedures. 

Essential Functions:

• Operate horizontal, vertical, band, cold, and/or automated CNC saws to cut metal materials according to work orders and specifications. 
• Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, production schedules, and cut lists. 
• Measure and verify material dimensions using calipers, tape measures, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments. 
• Load, unload, and handle raw materials using forklifts, cranes, hoists, or other material-handling equipment. 
• Set up saw equipment, including blade selection, feed rates, cutting speeds, and material positioning. 
• Inspect cut materials to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards. 
• Perform routine machine maintenance, including blade changes, lubrication, and cleaning. 
• Monitor machine performance and report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs. 
• Organize and label cut materials for transfer to machining, welding, or fabrication departments. 
• Maintain accurate production records and material usage documentation. 
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations. 
• Keep work areas clean and organized according to 5S and housekeeping standards. 
• Assist with inventory control and material receiving as needed. 
• Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives. 

Education and Training:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• 1 – 3 years of related experience.
• Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and measurements. 
• Previous manufacturing, machine shop, or saw operation experience preferred. 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong attention to detail and quality. 
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. 
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
• Effective communication skills. 
• Time management and organizational skills. 
• Ability to meet production deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
• Commitment to safety and quality standards

Physical Demands:

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting. 
• Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds regularly. 
• Ability to work around moving machinery and industrial equipment. 
• Use of personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe footwear.

• Warehouse setting
