About the Company

SC Steel, LLC was established January 2, 2018, as a subsidiary of FabSouth and acquired the assets of SMI-Owen Steel Company, Inc. on April 1, 2018. SMI-Owen Steel Company had owned the business since 1994 when they acquired it from South Carolina Steel Company. The Upstate South Carolina facility has been in operation at this location since 1952.


Job Overview

Sets up, loads, operates, and unloads CNC equipment in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining high quality.  Performs minor maintenance on equipment including operator Preventative Maintenance.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Validate CNC programs
  • Create CNC programs as necessary
  • Operate CNC equipment according to instructions and procedures
  • Perform quality checks on pieces completed
  • Ensure that lots are completed in priority order
  • Perform material handling as necessary to load and unload equipment
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance and machine calibrations
  • Identify priority order for production based on information provided by supervisor
  • Use computer equipment to load programs into CNC equipment and validate programs prior to running each piece
  • Create or edit programs at the CNC equipment control panel as necessary
  • Operate equipment according to procedures and instructions
  • Use tape measure and framing square to perform quality checks on pieces upon completion
  • Identify quality issues during first-off quality inspections and communicate with supervisors or QC to determine any corrective actions
  • Perform tool changes to accommodate different needs for production; maintain and rebuild tools as necessary
  • Perform inventory and production tracking transactions in the production control software
  • Use material handling equipment (overhead cranes, roller conveyor, transfer arms) to move material into place for production and out of the equipment once the piece is complete


Additional Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret Structural fabrication drawings.
  • Agrees with and subscribes to and displays a commitment to SC Steels Core values.


General Tools Required

  • Tape measures – 30 ft
  • Framing square


Experience:

 1 -2 years operating CNC Equipment 

 

Education/Training

High School Diploma or GED

 

Desired Traits:

Working knowledge of computers and computer software

Good mechanical aptitude

Organizational skills

Self starter- able to work alone and in groups as needed to  accomplish goals.
