The BAX Exhibition Catalog Designers are responsible for all aspects of the catalog's visual design, layout, and production, including: establishing the catalog's design direction, page layout, and typography; sourcing and preparing high-quality images of exhibited works; writing or editing captions, artist statements, and supplementary text; coordinating with exhibiting artists to ensure accurate representation of their work; and preparing the final press-ready PDF for electronic distribution.

The catalog designers must communicate regularly with one another, Department of Art and Film & Media Studies faculty, Grinnell College Museum of Art (GCMoA) staff, and the SEPCs to ensure design goals and exhibition objectives are met.
Applicants must be current members of the Art SEPC or the Film & Media Studies (FMS) SEPC.

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, or other professional-grade graphic design and page layout software. This is an absolute requirement, as the catalog is produced entirely through digital design tools. Strong working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop for image editing and color correction is highly recommended. Familiarity with preparing files for both screen (PDF) and print production (bleed, trim, color profiles) is a significant advantage.

Desired skills include strong visual design and page composition sensibility; experience with editorial or publication design; attention to detail in typography, color accuracy, and image reproduction; written communication skills sufficient to draft or edit catalog text; and the ability to meet production deadlines. Experience with exhibition catalogs, lookbooks, zines, or comparable publications is valued but not required.

Third- or fourth-year undergraduates are preferred. Applicants are encouraged to indicate their year of academic progress in their Letter of Interest.
