Overview

Welding Engineer – Supplier Oversight (Welding & NDT Engineering)

 

We are seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to join our Supplier Oversight Group, supporting the fabrication of critical components used in the construction of nuclear submarines. This role provides a unique opportunity to work closely with suppliers, internal teams, and government customers while influencing the quality and reliability of complex welded structures.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

• Conduct audits of supplier welding operations to verify compliance with contractual and technical requirements.• Follow up on audit findings and collaborate with suppliers to resolve issues impacting in‑process or delivered hardware.• Review and approve supplier welding procedures, ensuring alignment with specifications and industry standards.• Evaluate and disposition vendor information requests.• Deliver welding training, technical guidance, and ongoing support to suppliers.• Communicate welding and fabrication issues clearly and professionally to SUPSHIP, NAVSEA customers, and internal Electric Boat stakeholders.• Travel to supplier locations as needed, typically up to one week at a time and up to once per month.

 

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology in one of the following disciplines:

– Mechanical Engineering– Welding Engineering– Metallurgical Engineering– Materials Engineering (with a focus on metallic materials)

• Minimum of 5 years of postgraduate engineering experience in an industrial welding environment, shipbuilding, or other heavy fabrication settings.

• This role will require travel to supplier locations as needed, typically up to one week at a time and up to once per month.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Hands‑on experience with fundamental arc welding processes and a strong understanding of welding metallurgy.• Demonstrated leadership experience.

 

 

Skills

  • Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are a must
