Class A CDL Route Driver
Location: Regional Route Covering Virginia and West Virginia

About the Role
Denali is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Class A CDL Route Driver to operate a four-day regional route covering locations throughout Virginia and West Virginia. This is an out-and-back route, allowing the driver to return to the terminal each day.
The driver will operate Class A commercial vehicles equipped with end-dump trailers, transport organic materials, service assigned customer locations, and safely deliver collected materials to designated processing or disposal facilities.
The ideal candidate has end-dump or bulk-hauling experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and a proven ability to maintain assigned equipment. This position requires a driver who takes ownership of the truck and trailer, performs thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, recognizes mechanical or safety concerns, and communicates issues promptly.
Schedule
- Four-day route schedule.
- Regional travel throughout Virginia and West Virginia.
- Out-and-back route with the driver returning to the terminal daily.
- Early-morning start times may be required.
- Overtime and schedule flexibility may be required based on operational needs.
- Weekend availability may occasionally be required.
- Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Route Operations and Transportation
- Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles equipped with end-dump trailers.
- Complete assigned routes throughout Virginia and West Virginia.
- Return to the terminal after completing each day’s assigned route.
- Operate both manual- and automatic-transmission commercial vehicles as assigned.
- Safely operate hydraulic end-dump controls during loading and unloading.
- Transport organic materials to designated processing, recycling, or disposal facilities.
- Follow assigned routes while adjusting to traffic, weather, customer needs, and operational changes.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area at customer and disposal locations.
- Follow all DOT regulations, traffic laws, company policies, and established safety procedures.
- Represent Denali professionally at customer locations and facilities.
Equipment Inspection and Maintenance
- Perform complete, documented, DOT-compliant pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer.
- Inspect critical vehicle and trailer components, including:
- Brakes and slack adjusters.
- Tires and wheels.
- Lights and reflectors.
- Air lines and air-brake systems.
- Hydraulic systems and controls.
- Suspension components.
- Coupling devices.
- Fluid levels.
- Trailer body, tailgate, and dumping mechanisms.
- Required emergency and safety equipment.
- Crawl underneath trucks and trailers when necessary to inspect brakes, slack adjusters, suspension components, and other safety systems.
- Recognize signs of mechanical failure, excessive wear, leaks, damage, or unsafe operating conditions.
- Immediately report mechanical concerns, equipment defects, maintenance needs, and safety issues.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and minor maintenance within the driver’s training and ability.
- Maintain proper fluid levels and monitor the overall operating condition of assigned equipment.
- Keep the assigned truck and trailer clean, organized, and in professional working condition.
- Take ownership of assigned equipment and help prevent avoidable breakdowns through proper inspections and preventative care.
- Never operate equipment that has been determined to be unsafe.
Technology, Documentation, and Compliance
- Use a company-provided mobile phone or handheld device to receive assignments and complete route responsibilities.
- Navigate mobile applications used for routing, communication, service documentation, and reporting.
- Maintain accurate Electronic Logging Device records and Hours of Service documentation.
- Complete driver vehicle inspection reports, service tickets, maintenance reports, delivery documents, and other required paperwork accurately and on time.
- Remain compliant with DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, and company safety standards.
- Participate in required safety meetings, training programs, and operational discussions.
- Understand and accept that company vehicles may be equipped with inward- and outward-facing safety cameras.
Communication and Customer Service
- Maintain open and professional communication with managers, dispatchers, customers, and operations personnel.
- Provide daily updates regarding route progress, delays, customer concerns, equipment conditions, and safety issues.
- Respond promptly to calls, messages, and operational instructions while following safe-driving practices.
- Immediately report accidents, injuries, spills, property damage, equipment failures, or other safety-related incidents.
- Provide dependable, courteous, and professional service at every location.
- Maintain a positive attitude and build productive working relationships with customers and team members.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
- Ability to operate manual- and automatic-transmission commercial vehicles.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical, drug screening, background screening, and Motor Vehicle Record review.
- Acceptable driving record that meets company and insurance requirements.
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations and Hours of Service requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to recognize common truck and trailer maintenance concerns.
- Willingness and ability to crawl underneath trucks and trailers to inspect brakes, slack adjusters, suspension components, and other critical systems.
- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and minor equipment maintenance when appropriate.
- Ability to use a mobile phone, ELD, and route-management applications.
- Willingness to operate vehicles equipped with inward- and outward-facing safety cameras.
- Ability to travel throughout Virginia and West Virginia and complete out-and-back routes safely.
- Ability to work a four-day route schedule with occasional overtime or weekend work when required.
- Strong attendance, dependability, communication, and customer-service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous end-dump trailer experience.
- Experience operating hydraulic end-dump systems.
- Regional driving experience in Virginia and West Virginia.
- Experience hauling food waste, agricultural products, recycling materials, or bulk commodities.
- Experience maintaining assigned trucks and trailers.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with ELDs, mobile route applications, and electronic service-ticket systems.
- Previous multi-stop route, collection, or customer-delivery experience.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
- Lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Push, pull, roll, and maneuver materials and equipment as required.
- Frequently bend, squat, kneel, twist, climb, and reach.
- Enter and exit the truck cab repeatedly throughout the workday.
- Crawl underneath trucks and trailers to inspect brakes, slack adjusters, suspension components, and other safety equipment.
- Safely operate hydraulic end-dump trailer systems.
- Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, snow, mud, and humidity.
- Work safely around organic materials, food waste, dust, insects, and strong odors.
- Remain seated and operate a commercial vehicle for extended periods.
Work Environment
This is a regional, physically demanding driving position operating throughout Virginia and West Virginia. The driver will complete an out-and-back route each scheduled day and return to the terminal after the route is completed.
Drivers routinely work outdoors in changing weather conditions and around organic materials, mud, dust, insects, and odors associated with the recycling industry. Successful candidates must be comfortable working independently, taking ownership of their equipment, and maintaining a strong commitment to safety, professionalism, and environmental stewardship.
