Summary of the position: The Behavioral Health Technician is the primary child care personnel for the assigned program. This position is designed to provide the daily services of safety, security and structure to the persons served. The care, custody and supervision of the persons served are the primary concerns of the job.  



Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Duty

Safety and Security

 

  • Ensure that each person served is secure and safe at all times through direct monitoring.
  • Required to accompany and monitor persons served during activities and school classes outside of the unit.

Program Implementation

 

  • Promote positive behaviors and redirect negative behaviors of the persons served through implementation of CARE.

Facility Maintenance 

 

  • Ensure that each person served completes his daily and weekly chores in order to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the unit as specified in the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Report any safety concerns to Treatment Team Coordinator.  
  • Conduct monthly fire drills.

Team Meeting 

  • Attend and participate in weekly Treatment Team Meetings.

Documentation 

 

  • Responsible for maintaining client service records, one-on-one summaries and record monthly fire drills as assigned.
  • Maintain a daily log to record the activities and major events of each shift.  
  • Check email daily.
  • Log into intranet daily.
  • Documentation may vary depending on assigned unit and is based on requirements outlined in the program description.

Passive Physical Restraint

 

  • Provide physical security for persons served. This includes the use of passive restraint techniques when necessary.

Food Service and Kitchen Cleanliness

 

  • Set up and serve meals as per menu on a daily basis.
  • Complete and return daily production records to include temperature of food.
  • Ensure all food service materials are prepared for return to Central Kitchen.
  • Ensure that cleanliness and order is maintained in kitchen.
  • Assess kitchen for overstocked items and report to Warehouse and Central Kitchen.

CARE

  • Utilize trauma-informed care practices within the scope of job responsibilities, consistently acting in the best interest of persons served and incorporating CARE principles in all interactions with individuals and colleagues across campus.

Other 

  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements: 

- High School Diploma or GED required and experience in working with person served with mental illness preferred.

- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.  

- Must be capable of implementing safe crisis management techniques and perform CPR.
