Responsibilities

  • Assess patients, identify changes in condition, and provide individualized nursing care in the Emergency Department.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and other interventions in accordance with provider orders and established nursing standards.
  • Use critical thinking and clinical judgment to respond to urgent, emergent, and rapidly changing patient needs.
  • Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate safe, effective patient care.
  • Respond to Rapid Response and Code events and provide nursing support to other patient care areas as needed.
  • Educate patients and families about care plans, medications, follow-up needs, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation and communicate important patient information during transitions of care and shift handoffs.
  • Support department safety, quality improvement, equipment readiness, and other activities that promote excellent patient care.
  • Serve as House Supervisor as assigned, providing clinical guidance, supporting hospital operations, and coordinating with leadership when needed.
  • Help welcome and support new team members through orientation, collaboration, and day-to-day clinical guidance.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program

 

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa.
