Position Summary:Â
The Associate Controller assists with comprehensive financial leadership and oversight for the Coeymans Marine Towing Division, reporting directly to the Director of Financial Operations and the Corporate Controller. This position supports all financial operations for the business unit, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and the full revenue and expense cycle, while operating under advanced oversight from senior leadership. This role supports commercial and operational initiatives by delivering accurate financial analysis, ensuring strong internal controls, and maintaining compliance with corporate policies and procedures. The Associate Controller will directly supervise the AP/Billing Clerk, and operates under the guidance of the Director of Financial Operations and Corporate Controller.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with all financial planning and analysis activities, including annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and variance reporting.
- Support timely and accurate month-end close processes and financial statement preparation.
- Monitor financial performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance with corporate accounting standards, internal controls, and audit requirements.
- Assist in directing all billing activities to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to contractual requirements.
- Support management of accounts receivable, including aging reviews, collections oversight, and customer account reconciliation.
- Assist with accounts payable processes, ensuring proper coding, approval routing, and vendor management.
- Help ensure integrity and efficiency across the full revenue and expense cycle, including documentation, controls, and process compliance.
- Provide financial guidance to operational and commercial leadership to support decision making and business planning.
- Support contract evaluation, rate development, bid preparation, and customer profitability analysis.
- Partner with operations to analyze fleet utilization, labor efficiency, maintenance planning, and capital investment needs.
- Prepare financial models, cost analyses, and operational performance reports as required.
- Directly supervise and develop the AP/Billing Clerk.
- Support clear performance expectations, workflows, and priorities for the team.
- Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Evaluate and help enhance financial processes, reporting tools, and internal controls.
- Support system upgrades, data integrity initiatives, and automation efforts.
- Ensure alignment with corporate finance, accounting, and compliance requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of progressive financial experience in accounting, finance, or related functions.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and communicate financial information clearly.
- High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in marine services, transportation, logistics, or industrial industries.
- Hands-on experience with billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and full revenue/expense cycle processes.
- Prior experience supporting or supervising team members.
- Experience with business intelligence (BI) tools or data analytics platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff under management guidance.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Ability to view computer screens and printed materials with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, or lifting light office materials (up to 10-15 pounds).
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via virtual meeting platforms.
