Role Details:

Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP seeks a Trusts and Estates Associate with 1-4 years of experience in trusts and estates with emphasis on income, estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax matters. The successful candidate will have experience in estate planning and estate and trust administration with an interest in tax and estate planning, wealth preservation, charitable giving, and business succession planning and will play a vital role in providing comprehensive legal solutions to high-net-worth families and corporate trustees. 

This position is located in our Corporate Woods office.

Our Firm, based in Albany, New York, is the largest in the Capital Region with over 120  attorneys in 19 practice areas.  The firm utilizes a multi-disciplinary team approach to deliver services to clients. In addition to Whiteman Osterman & Hanna’s depth of legal knowledge, we are dedicated to creating a positive and rewarding work environment for all employees – attorneys and staff alike. 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the New York Bar
  • 1-4 years of experience in trusts and estates law

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare estate planning documents such as Wills, Trust Agreements, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies, and Living Wills
  • Assist with high-net-worth tax planning, including preparation of wealth preservation strategies, income, estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax analyses, charitable giving structures, and business succession plans
  • Manage estate and trust administration matters, including representation before tax authorities and in Surrogate’s Courts
  • Collaborate with other practice areas to deliver comprehensive solutions
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal documents
  • Communicate with clients and other stakeholders effectively
