Winter Caretaker - Glacier Bay - Lodge

Job Description

Glacier Bay Lodge is seeking 1 Full-Time and 1 Part-Time reliable and dedicated Winter Caretaker to maintain and oversee the lodge during the winter months. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, and have experience in basic maintenance and caretaking duties. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently in a serene, winter environment.

• Monitor and maintain the property, ensuring it is secure and safe at all times.
• Perform regular snow removal and ice management from walkways, driveways, and entryways.
• Conduct routine checks of the property for any maintenance issues, such as broken windows, leaks, or heating problems.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks, including minor repairs, replacing light bulbs, and checking heating systems.
• Ensure the property is kept clean and tidy, including managing waste and recycling.
• Report any significant issues or emergencies to the property owner or designated contact immediately.
• Assist with coordination of needs with local NPS staff, as needed.
• Keep an inventory of supplies and request replenishments when necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the property owner or management.
• Inspecting fire suppression risers once per week when above freezing, once per day when at freezing or below.
• Exchanging humidity bags on a regular schedule inside all guest rooms and the main lodge.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in property maintenance, caretaking, or a related field.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including snow removal and general maintenance work.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems is preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
• Flexibility to work on-call for emergencies or as needed, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to handle adverse weather conditions, including extreme cold and snow.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
