Job summary: Rocky Mountain Custom Landscapes seeking an experienced and highly organized Irrigation Manager to lead our Gypsum, CO Irrigation Division across multiple service areas in Eagle County and Summit County. This role oversees daily operations, ensures optimal system performance, and provides strong leadership to a team of irrigation technicians. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a hands-on leadership style.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
· Oversee all irrigation department operations across multiple regions, ensuring proper system coverage, pressure, and overall efficiency.
· Conduct daily inspections and team meetings to verify pumps, valves, controllers, wiring, and irrigation zones are functioning properly.
· Adjust irrigation schedules remotely using irrigation apps based on weather, plant needs, turf conditions, and seasonal changes to optimize water use.
· Ensure compliance with safety procedures, company policies, and ERW water regulations.
Team Management
· Supervise, train, and mentor 5-10 irrigation technicians, assigning tasks, reviewing daily work, and maintaining high performance standards.
· Lead by example with strong work ethic, professionalism, and hands-on support during complex repairs or high‑pressure situations.
· Promote a positive, respectful work culture built on teamwork, accountability, clear communication, and pride in quality work.
· Encourage open communication, listen to team feedback, and support continuous improvement for all team members.
System Diagnostics & Repairs
· Dispatch technicians to diagnose and repair leaks, electrical faults, broken lines, damaged heads, and malfunctioning components.
· Lead installation and upgrades of irrigation systems, including reading and interpreting plans, schematics, and system maps.
· Conduct pressure tests, flow tests, and system inspections to ensure efficient water use and system performance.
Technical & Administrative Duties
· Utilize Aspire for scheduling, completing daily timesheets, writing proposals, and preparing contracts.
· Track water usage and implement water-saving strategies for clients.
· Maintain inventory of irrigation parts and supplies; coordinate purchasing and store materials properly.
· Document daily inspections, repairs, water adjustments, and system performance for accurate recordkeeping.
· Collaborate with upper management, supervisors, client representatives, and other departments to plan repairs, projects, and system improvements.
· Act as the primary liason between the Garden Managers and Irrigation teams
· Oversee maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, landscape lighting, and water features.
· Inventory Management – Irrigation Parts/Weathermatic Parts /Tool Inventory/ Vehicle
· Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and procurement of necessary equipment and materials.
· Troubleshoot and resolve irrigation and customer service issues effectively.
· Conduct biweekly one-on-one meetings with all direct reports
· Manage the data and metrics for the Irrigation Department, including optimizing department operations to better achieve revenue goals
· Budgetary planning and seasonal departmental planning and execution – Geographical concerns/weathermatic controllers/ team responsibilities
Qualifications
· 3–5+ years of irrigation management or senior irrigation technician experience preferred.
· Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, water management, troubleshooting, and installation practices.
· Proficiency with irrigation controllers, remote irrigation apps, and common diagnostic tools.
· Experience using Aspire or similar landscape management software is highly beneficial.
· Strong leadership, communication, and team-building abilities.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi‑site environment.
