The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all medication storage, preparation and day-to-day operations of the Inpatient Pharmacy and Retail Pharmacies in the organization.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Director, Pharmacy at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Directs all activities of the Pharmacy Department in accordance with applicable regulations, accreditation standards, certification and licensing requirements (State, Federal, JCAHO, NJDOH, NJ Board of Pharmacy).
  • Analyses and evaluates Pharmacy services in relation to the patient populations served and makes necessary recommendations.
  • Supports and/or participates in activities designed to advance the practice of Pharmacy within the organization (e.g., clinical programs, residency program, pharmacy student rotations.
  • Works with the Administrator, Patient Safety & Clinical Services as required promoting quality and safe and effective use of medication products throughout the organization.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational & Managerial Competencies.
  • Departmental and operational planning and in ensuring that Pharmacy services are optimal and meet patient and provider needs.
  • Directs and maintain the daily operations of the department.
  • Directs and maintains control and security of medication products utilized within the organization.
  • Directs and maintains the evaluation and implementation of programs, processes and technology that will be used by the department, and for coordinating efforts with other departments as required to meet organizational needs.
  • Responsible for the scheduling of the Pharmacy staff; and for promoting employee satisfaction.
  • Responsible for the payroll function in the Pharmacy Department, including monitoring compliance to the salary budget.
  • Financial and budgetary goals; and with policy and procedure development, implementation, review and revision.
  • Oversees and coordinates the activities of the Pharmacy Supervisors.
  • Directs and works with the Clinical Coordinator to coordinate the department's operational and clinical activities.
  • Directs and Works with the IT Department and the Pharmacy to coordinate training for and use of technology within the department.
  • Develops and Complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of the organization.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • BS in Pharmacy.
  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years in management.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Master's Degree or a Pharm.D. degree.
  • 8-10 years of hospital experience.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Registered Pharmacist.

Contacts:

  • Regular contact with Medical Center personnel, patients and visitors.

Working Conditions:

  • Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 40 lbs. and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day.

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $214,240 Annually
