JOB TITLE

Fingerprint Technician

CLASSIFICATION

SUMMARY

The Fingerprint Technician will collect fingerprints and perform administrative tasks and office support activities for multiple staff members. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • One (1) year of administrative support experience

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • State of Maryland Techniques of Fingerprinting Training Certification

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Utilizes biometric fingerprint technology, including capturing fingerprint data using LiveScan technology.

  • Ensures compliance with data privacy regulations while adhering to strict security protocols and legal considerations surrounding the use of biometric information.

  • Communicates with the State of Maryland Criminal Justice Investigative Service (CJIS) to accurately capture and process fingerprints.

  • Collects payment using point of sale and online systems, processing refunds, and protects public forms of payment as required.

  • Receives guests and visitors as a front desk receptionist.

  • Performs basic filing and record-keeping.

  • Perform duties with professionalism, compassion, and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every individual, unrestricted by consideration of social or economic status, personal attributes, or the nature of health problems. 

  • Execute duties and represent Optimal ethically, cooperatively, and efficiently.

  • Execute procedures as outlined in the Optimal Policy and Procedure Manual.

  • Comply with Optimal and CJIS compliance measures

  • Comply with Optimal Personnel Record Policy, including updating applicable licenses, health screenings, and CPR/FA certification.

  • Comply with the provisions of State, local, and Federal laws, regulations, ordinances, requirements, and codes that apply to the performance of services to be rendered. 

  • Comply with federal, state, and local laws by not discriminating against anyone based on race, color, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other protected basis.

COMPETENCY

  • Proficient in Google Suite(Gmail, Google Drive, etc.)

  • Proficient keyboard skills at a minimum of 70 WPM.

  • Proficient internet research skills.

  • Schedule and manage appointments efficiently.

  • Ability to answer, screen, and direct phone calls using multi-line desk and mobile phone; take messages.

  • Ability to greet, assist, and provide direction and information to clients, visitors, and other guests of the organization.

  • Maintain LiveScan equipment in the office and off-site with low transmission cost.

  • Compile fingerprinting service delivery statistics as requested.

  • Maintain contracts with external fingerprint consumers.

  • Perform work using discretion and judgment.

  • Coordinate with other departments to assist in the onboarding process.

  • Communicate using professional written and oral communication skills. 

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work activities, and manage time efficiently.

  • Maintain proper use of company equipment, including a laptop and mobile phone.

  • Adhere to the privacy and confidentiality of Optimal proprietary information, security data, client records, and communication as outlined in HIPAA regulations, Optimal policy, and state and federal laws. 

  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings and complete training as required to execute job duties and as requested by Optimal. 

  • Notify the immediate supervisor at least four (4) hours before the start of the work day if unable to report to work.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position is not responsible for supervising others.

  • Reports to the Director of Operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting and requires periodic travel to off-site locations to provide fingerprinting services.

  • Work involves personal contact with Optimal employees and the public. 

  • Work will require the use of personal protective equipment, such as gloves and masks, as required.

  • Work as an "essential" employee; this may occur when called upon to assist with natural disasters and public health emergencies. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Visual acuity as needed to examine prints at a close range.

  • Ability to position oneself in different positions as needed to collect latent prints.

  • Manual dexterity is required to manipulate small objects, such as using a keyboard. 

  • Strength to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 10 pounds.

  • Alternate between being in a seated position and standing for extended periods.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • Full-time

  • Monday through Friday

  • 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current and active CPR and First Aid certification

  • Normal tuberculosis skin test (or Chest X-ray within 12 months)

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and reliable personal transportation

  • Current active driver's license and automobile insurance

  • At least three (3) letters of reference (must be in good standing)

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE

  • Proof of authorization to work lawfully in the United States is required.

  • Federal or state security clearance is not required.

  • Not been determined to be:

    • Convicted of a crime of violence in violation of Criminal Law Article 14-101, Annotated Code of MD

    • In violation of Health-General Article 7-1102 annotated code of MD

    • A person with a criminal history that would indicate behavior potentially harmful to people receiving services is documented through a state and federal criminal background check.
