About Us

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This position is responsible for providing clerical support at Roanoke River Correctional Institution, a medium and minimum custody facility. This position is responsibilities for the following: To provide administrative, clerical, and office support duties for supervisor. Duties performed may include preparation of documents and reports, composition of memos and letters, the use of office technology, compiling records, organizing and maintaining files. Must be skilled in use of MS Word and Excel, to include spreadsheet, report writing, proofing and editing. This position will assist with various departmental inventory and assist with motor fleet operations by managing vehicle documentation, scheduling maintenance, tracking data of state vehicles and maintaining fuel/mileage records. Communicate professionally and effectively with staff, inmates and the general public, provide information and problem solving. This position will work in an office within the security perimeter of the facility and will be exposed to inmate population during the normal workday. Assist management staff, when directed, with other additional clerical duties as needed assistance in other departments.

About the Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
