Location: Hampton, VA

Employment Type: Full-Time (W2)

GovFirst is seeking a qualified and experienced Master Electrician to support tunnel, bridge, and roadway infrastructure projects throughout Southeast Virginia. This position is responsible for the preventive maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and digital systems that support critical transportation facilities. The ideal candidate will have strong commercial or industrial electrical experience and the ability to work in a dynamic 24/7 operational environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of electrical systems supporting tunnels, bridges, roadways, and transportation facilities.

  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues involving commercial and industrial electrical equipment, panels, and distribution systems.

  • Maintain electrical systems to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation.

  • Inspect electrical systems to identify wear, damage, defects, and potential safety hazards.

  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, lighting, controls, and related systems.

  • Assist with planning and layout of electrical wiring and equipment installations for new and upgraded systems.

  • Fabricate, modify, and install electrical components as required.

  • Verify that all electrical work complies with applicable codes, regulations, safety standards, and project requirements.

  • Review and inspect work performed by contractors to ensure quality and compliance standards are met.

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, schematics, specifications, and technical documentation.

  • Evaluate electrical system performance and recommend improvements or corrective actions.

  • Estimate labor, materials, equipment, and time requirements for electrical projects.

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, and completed work.

  • Operate electrical testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, and specialized maintenance equipment safely and effectively.

  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, project personnel, contractors, and team members.

  • Respond to electrical emergencies and urgent maintenance issues as required.

  • Perform work from bucket trucks and elevated work platforms when necessary.

  • Support traffic monitoring, roadway systems, and related transportation infrastructure as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or project management.


Requirements

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with commercial or industrial electrical systems.

  • Strong understanding of electrical theory, systems, components, and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.

  • Experience working with electrical panels, distribution systems, and control equipment.

  • Knowledge of electrical safety regulations, codes, and industry best practices.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, overtime, and emergency call-outs.

Required Education & Credentials:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Licensed Master Electrician (required).

Required Work Authorization:

  • U.S Citizenship

Required Licensing & Background Check:

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

  • Must successfully pass a DMV records check.

  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening.

  • Must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check.
