Psychiatric Technician - Full-Time
Annual Salary: $40,091
Shift Differential: $2.50/hour for evenings, overnights, and weekends
Schedules:
- 7:00 pm - 3:30 pm, with alternating weekends
- 9:30 am - 6:00 pm, with alternating weekends

Are you looking for a rewarding career where you can make a direct impact on the lives of others? The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is seeking a compassionate and dependable Psychiatric Technician to join the team at the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center.
In this role, you'll provide direct care, support, and supervision to adults experiencing serious mental health challenges and co-occurring substance use disorders. You'll work closely with an interdisciplinary team to create a safe, supportive environment that promotes stability, independence, and recovery.
Minimum qualifications:
- One year of direct care experience working with adults with serious mental illness.
- CNA preferred.
What You'll Do
As a Psychiatric Technician, you will:
- Provide direct care, support, and supervision to clients in an intensive, short-term residential setting.
- Monitor client behavior, needs, and progress and accurately document observations and services provided.
- Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to support treatment goals and coordinated care.
- Facilitate individual and group activities focused on independent living skills, personal development, and leisure.
- Encourage clients to develop skills that promote greater independence and wellness.
- Assist with household duties and maintaining a clean, safe, and supportive environment.
- Help maintain the health, safety, dignity, and civil rights of clients/families.
- Respond appropriately to behavioral or emotional needs and situations that may arise.
- Establish positive, respectful relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Follow agency policies, procedures, and safety standards.
