Sentara CarePlex Hospital located in Hampton, VA is hiring a Registered Nurse for Same Day Surgery.

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Education

  • RN-Associate’s Degree

  • RN-Bachelor’s Degree

  • RN-Diploma

  • RN-Master’s Degree

Certification/Licensure

  • Virginia or Compact Multi-state RN (Registered Nurse) license in good standing.

  • ACLS & PALS or ENPC within one (1) year of hire

  • BLS within 90 days of hire

Same Day Surgery (Multi-Specialty)

We are seeking a versatile and skilled Registered NurseĀ to join our Same Day Surgery team. This role is perfect for a clinician who thrives on variety, as you will provide care for a diverse patient population undergoing a wide range of surgical interventions.

In this position, you will rotate between Pre-Operative PreparationĀ and Phase II Recovery/Discharge, serving as a critical link in the patient's surgical journey from arrival to home-going.

Clinical Scope

Our center handles a high acuity mix of cases. You will provide specialized perianesthesia care for procedures including, but not limited to:

  • Vascular & Oncology
  • Orthopedics & General Surgery
  • Urology & Gynecology
  • Bariatrics

Schedule & Hours of Operation

Our facility operates between 0530 and 2100.

  • Primary Shift:Ā Daytime hours.
  • Requirement:Ā Occasional evening shifts are required to support the late-day surgical schedule.
  • On-Call:Ā Participation in a call rotation is required. Specific details regarding call frequency and response times will be discussed during the interview.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-Op Excellence:Ā Perform comprehensive physical assessments, initiate IV access, and ensure patients are clinically and emotionally prepared for surgery.
  • Post-Op Recovery:Ā Manage Phase II recovery, focusing on pain management, hemodynamic stability, and surgical site monitoring.
  • Specialized Care:Ā Adapt nursing interventions based on the specific needs of the surgical specialty (e.g., mobility protocols for Orthopedics or education for Bariatric patients).
  • Safe Discharge:Ā Educate patients and caregivers on post-operative instructions, medications, and warning signs to ensure a safe transition home.

Qualifications

  • Licensure:Ā Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Certifications:Ā BLS and ACLS required.
  • Experience:Ā Minimum 1–2 years of RN experience. Background in surgical services, ICU, or ER is strongly preferred due to the mixed-specialty nature of the unit.
  • Skills:Ā Strong IV skills and the ability to educate patients across various surgical disciplines.
