Otterkill Animal Hospital

Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT)
Location: Campbell Hall, NY
Schedule: Full-Time | Saturday Rotation
Pay Range: $23–$28 per hour (based on experience)

Why Otterkill Animal Hospital?

Otterkill Animal Hospital is a 2-doctor AAHA accredited small animal practice in an idyllic setting in the middle of Orange County, New York. Our team is a group of lively, fun loving individuals, and we enjoy spending time with each other both in and outside of work. We often go to community events to promote ourselves, and we have hospital staff outings. We work as a team to come up with ideas for constantly improving the hospital and we face any roadblocks or changes in how we practice as a unified team with input from every level.

Our team has a passion for client education, and we make our clients a part of their pets' health care team. We believe compliance comes with understanding. In order to accomplish this, all members of our staff need to have a strong understanding of current veterinary topics and feel confident delivering accurate medical advice.  Our clients develop a personal relationship with our staff and feel comforted by a friendly face and a confident voice as well as a professional attitude.  That trust is maintained with dependable communication in a manner that is easily absorbable.

Low stress veterinary visits are a staple of our practice. If our patients are scared to come to us, then their owners are less likely to bring them to see us.  They see the efforts we go through to give their beloved pets the best of care while managing their fears and anxieties. We enforce pre-visit medication protocols, and our clients are informed that we may need multiple visits to adjust protocols to find what works for their pets.

We are a paperless practice using Cornerstone practice software and Idexx imaging and reference labs. Our medical records have a high level of detail, and the LVTs are integral in maintaining those standards. Therefore a candidate should be comfortable learning to use a variety of software and be able to use the entire Microsoft Suite.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you’ll work closely with our veterinarians and support staff throughout the patient care experience. Your day may include:

  • Supporting doctors during wellness visits, sick appointments, procedures, and surgeries
  • Collecting samples and performing in-house laboratory testing
  • Taking high quality diagnostic radiographs (both dental and standard)
  • Administering medications, injections, and prescribed treatments
  • Preparing surgical patients and assisting with recovery and post-operative monitoring
  • Monitoring patients and communicating changes to the veterinary team
  • Maintaining thorough and accurate patient records
  • Providing clients with instructions regarding medications, nutrition, follow-up care, and treatment plans
  • Safely handling and restraining patients while maintaining a calm, compassionate approach
  • Helping keep treatment areas, equipment, and workspaces clean and well maintained

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician who is confident in a clinical setting and enjoys working as part of a team with a unified message and goal.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A New York State license that is up to date in veterinary technology
  • Previous experience working in a veterinary hospital or clinical setting
  • Strong anesthesia monitoring, drug calculating, and venipuncture skills.
  • The ability to independently run technician appointments for vaccine boosters, blood draws, gland expressions, nail trims etc.
  • Fear Free certification is a plus, but experience operating within their low stress handling principles is a must.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with veterinarians, coworkers, and pet owners.
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
  • A dependable, team-oriented approach. We all show up for each other and our patients each and every day
  • Someone with a shared goal in practicing high quality medicine and who can communicate that goal to our clients through action and speech.
  • Comfort working in a busy environment with multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to participate in a rotating Saturday schedule, evenings until 8pm, and early mornings at 7am.
  • Experience with Cornerstone software, Vetcove pharmacy, Petdesk, and wellness plans is a plus.

We believe great veterinary professionals deserve meaningful support both inside and outside the hospital. Our benefits include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Generous paid time off
