Summary:
This intern role will assist with various processes including: HVAC design, HVAC performance verification, field inspections for new home quality(QI), and energy performance testing. This role offers direct exposure to HVAC systems, energy-efficient building practices, and site construction management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Inspections (QI): Perform site visits to new residential construction projects for new single-family and multi-family homes.Â
- Performance Testing: Assist with testing and balancing (T&B) activities, duct leakage testing (duct blaster), and house infiltration testing (blower door) to ensure code compliance.
- Design Support: Assist senior engineers in performing residential HVAC load calculations (Manual J) and equipment selection (Manual S).
- Documentation: Prepare detailed field reports, documentation of findings, and as-built drawings using modeling software.
- Collaboration: Work with office and field personnel to learn various aspects of our business.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a degree program with a focus on drafting/engineering/design or similar.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with or coursework in AutoCAD or similar.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to work in both field and office environments.
- Valid driver’s license for site visits.Â

Work environment:  Office work requires extended periods of sitting and computer use. Field work occurs primarily inside new construction homes. Conditions may vary depending on the phase of construction and may include exposure to heat, cold, rain, uneven terrain, and other common construction-site hazards.
Learning objective:
This internship provides hands-on experience in residential HVAC modeling, energy performance testing, and construction quality inspections. The intern will support both field and office operations, gaining practical exposure to load calculations, HVAC testing, and new home quality inspections. Through this role, the intern will develop technical documentation skills, build familiarity with energy-efficient building practices, and strengthen communication and collaboration skills while working alongside seasoned professionals.
