Primary Function:
The Estimator is responsible for reviewing assigned bid opportunities, interpreting drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and related contract documents, and preparing accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for fabrication projects. This role develops quantity takeoffs, labor and production assumptions, material and subcontractor pricing, bid qualifications, and final projected costs in coordination with operations, project management, vendors, and subcontractors to support profitable project awards and successful project execution.Â
Responsibilities:
- Evaluates bids from customers
- Determines cost projections for bids
- Secure subcontractor prices, when appropriate
- Secure material prices
- Secure material take-offs
- Complete bids, on time
- Attend job shows
- Obtain input for project from Operational Department Managers before completing project estimates
- Accept assigned bids
- Study and understand work scopes and specifications
- Develop project task list
- Price materials
- Price subcontractor tasks
- Develop estimates according to company formats
- Â Input project data into computer templates
- Prepare transmittal letters
- Prepare completed job folderÂ
- List bid qualifications
- Complete bid forms
- Prepare data for Project Managers, including preliminary schedule, man-hours, weight, costs and sales
- Represent the company in a professional and positive manner to client
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering and/or business-related fields (strong preference to a graduate engineer with extensive business background training)
- Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in the midstream oil and gas and chemical industry and downstream markets, including business development and sales experience
- Preferred Certifications/Credentials:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skill
- Must possess strong industry knowledge of target markets
- Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office application with the ability to learn and utilize specific estimating software
