The IT Systems Administrator provides comprehensive technical support and management for Hastings College’s IT infrastructure, ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient operation of systems and services to support the diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff. This full-time onsite position is responsible for administering servers, networks, and various software applications, as well as providing technical assistance and troubleshooting. The Systems Administrator will work collaboratively within the Information Technology team to support campus operations and contribute to a robust technological environment.


Job Summary:

  • Manage Windows Server and Hyper-V Infrastructure: Oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Windows Server environments, with a primary focus on Hyper-V hyperconverged infrastructure and virtual machine optimization for high availability and performance.
  • Administer Core IT Systems: Manage identity management systems (Active Directory), network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls), and ensure robust security measures including patching, antivirus, and intrusion detection.
  • Ensure Data Integrity and Business Continuity: Perform regular system backups, develop and test disaster recovery plans, and provide crisis response for critical system outages.
  • Provide Comprehensive Technical Support & Documentation: Offer technical support to end-users for hardware, software, and network issues, while developing and maintaining thorough documentation for all systems and procedures.
  • Collaborate and Evolve IT Services: Work closely with IT staff and campus departments to integrate and support various college systems, participate in planning new technologies, and continuously update personal knowledge and skills.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Three to five years of demonstrated experience in systems administration, network administration.
  • Proficiency with Windows Server operating systems and Hyper-V virtualization, especially within a hyperconverged environment.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365, Google Workspace) and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) is preferred.
