Department: Convention Sales and Services

Location: Primarily stationed at Lake Terrace Convention Center; but work requires travel to all Hattiesburg Convention Commission facilities. These include the Saenger Theater, African American Military History Museum, Eureka School Museum, and the Hattiesburg Zoo.

Shift: Full-Time; Varies - due to the irregular schedule of the Event industry, hours may fall in varying patterns even within the work week. Holidays and weekends are often busy times for events and the setup staff must be flexible and reliable.

Summary: The Setup Associate is responsible for performing semi-skilled manual work in the setup area. Duties are routine, requiring some degree of independent judgment in making minor decisions. Duties are heavy in nature, requiring considerable physical activity, and are performed under occasional hazardous conditions and require normal attention to prevent errors. Employee is required at times to work unusual hours or split shifts. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Confers daily with Setup Floor Supervisor or Setup Supervisor to review assignments.

•    Perform event set-up, break-down and clean-up.

•    Insures the exhibit hall, meeting rooms and pre-function areas are cleaned and vacuumed.

•    Insures all service and storage areas are cleaned, and equipment is in proper storage area

•    Is readily available to make changes in exhibit hall, meeting rooms, as needed.                                                                         

•    Operates automotive equipment, forklift, hydraulic lift, and floor scrubber.

•    Must report any building components in need of repair.

•    Requires the use of an operational two-way radio at all times.

•    May work long hours to meet client timetable. 

•    Must be able to perform duties and special projects assigned by Supervisor.

•    Assist in other departments when necessary.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

Education and/or Work Experience 

High school graduate or accredited equivalency program. A combination of work experience and education may be evaluated.

Essential Job Qualifications  

•    Must retain a valid Driver’s License and meet the eligibility requirements to drive while conducting company business.

Knowledge, Skills, and Physical Requirements

•    Must have knowledge of materials, methods, and practices in function room set-ups.

•    Must have knowledge to be able to perform minor maintenance task on equipment.

•    Must have knowledge on how to set-up and break-down assignments.

•    Must have reading and writing skills.

•    Must be able to perform routine and repetitive task without immediate supervision.

•    Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff and facility clients.

•    Must have ability to speak and hear well enough to converse in person.

•    Must have body mobility to walk, kneel, crouch, bend and stretch.

•    Must be able to climb ladders up to 14-feet high.

•    Must be have sufficient strength to lift and carry 50 pounds.

•    Must be able to stand while doing physical labor for four (4) hours with only one (1) fifteen (15) minute break.

•    Tolerance to work under adverse conditions such as among dust, dirt, cleaning agent odors, and outdoors in heat and cold.
