Primary Function:

The Clinical Informatics serves as the primary interface between nursing, patient care, physicians and Information Technology services to ensure multi- and inter-disciplinary project coordination. The Clinical Informatics will participate in communications and project planning regarding system implementation and integration with Mason District Hospital initiatives. This position requires the specialist to be knowledgeable about the nursing process and nursing practice, relevant regulatory mandates, and principles of quality/safety improvement.  The informatics projects are planned and implemented using evidence-based practices for planning, understanding, guiding and delivering responsible patient care.

Responsibilities:

  1. Promote the mission values and visions of Mason District Hospital.
  2. Build collaborative relationships with providers and clinical staff.
  3. Provide EHR support via face-to-face interaction, email and/or phone.
  4. Assist users with submitting help requests to EHR vendors, submit requests on behalf of users as needed and monitor submitted help requests for resolution.
  5. Coordinates orientation with employees.
  6. Working with and training with the physicians and employees for current and upcoming changes.
  7. Provides ongoing end user education.
  8. Make regular rounds within the facility to inquire about any issues, seek input for change, and observe workflows.
  9. Provides support for daily system operations.
  10. Role models leadership behaviors that demonstrate specific professional values.
  11. Evaluates current interventions and emerging technologies to ensure implementation of strategies that promote viable data, cost, safety and quality outcomes with the CIO.
  12. Analyzes processes and implements necessary process improvements related to technology.
  13. Assists patient care managers and others in the interpretation and use of data for decision-making.
  14. Improve and innovate the use of technology within clinical practice and workflows.
  15. Manages resources effectively to achieve identified project objectives and expected outcomes.
  16. Compliance with department and hospital standards and procedures.
  17. Self-initiated training and development needs.
  18. Be available (on call) for after-hours assistance, travel, training and seminars.
  19. Maintains accurate and timely documentation regarding product/service evaluations, system assessment and evaluations, and implementation plans.
  20. Completion of other duties as assigned by the CIO.
  21. Performs routine hardware troubleshooting of Windows-based client computers and peripherals.
  22. Create reports and documentation as assigned.
  23. Work with facility staff in planning and implementation of clinical IT projects and services.
  24. Completion of other duties as assigned by the CIO.
  25. May perform portions of the work of higher classified positions occasionally, as assigned by the CIO. 
  26. May perform duties of similar complexity in any Hospital department as required or assigned by the CIO.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Minimum LPN (RN Preferred) 
  2. Work experience: a minimum of three years working in a nursing setting is preferred. (as clinical informatics is desired, not required)
  3. Required skills, knowledge and abilities: 
  • excellent interpersonal communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • evidence of ability to function with a high degree of independence while actively collaborating with health care members
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • knowledge and skills in quality improvement methodologies
  • knowledge of the nursing process and nursing practice
  • knowledge of mandates of regulatory and accrediting bodies to stay current
  • knowledge of current literature that impacts technology/information needs as well as financial management

                     Driver’s license.
