Location:  Mason District Hospital, Havana, IL

Primary Function: 

Maintenance 2 Personnel are responsible for general facility maintenance including Preventive Maintenance, Work Orders, Plumbing, Carpentry, Minor Electrical. In addition to tasks required, Maintenance 2 personnel should be proficient in the Maintenance 1 position. Jobs are in various locations across all Mason District Hospital facilities. 

Responsibilities:

1. Preventive Maintenance on most hospital equipment.

1. Work Order requests for various jobs submitted by different departments.

1. All Maintenance 1 tasks and responsibilities.

1. Snow Removal.

1. Be familiar with all departmental policies and procedures.

1. Weekend and on-call hours are required.

1. Foster a professional and confidential relationship with staff and patients, encouraging open communication, trust, and a high standard of professionalism within the department and the hospital.

1. Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the organization.

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or GED required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related experience may be considered.

1. Read/Write/Speak in English.

1. Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License and meet all requirements for authorization to operate an MDH- owned, leased, or otherwise authorized vehicle.

1. Three years of previous experience with maintenance.

1. Ability to read multimeter

1. Good telephone and communication skills.

1. Medium mechanical skills.

1. Must be able to differentiate between colors.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

1. Heavy Lifting & Carrying – Moving tools, equipment, and materials, sometimes weighing 50+ pounds.

1. Frequent Bending, Kneeling & Crawling – Performing repairs under sinks, in tight spaces, or at floor level.

1. Standing & Walking for Long Periods – Covering large hospital areas on foot throughout the shift.

1. Climbing & Working at Heights – Using ladders or lifts to repair lighting, HVAC systems, or ceilings.

1. Operating Tools & Machinery – Using drills, saws, welding equipment, and other maintenance tools.

1. Repetitive Motions – Performing tasks like painting, hammering, or assembling components.

1. Exposure to Extreme Temperatures – Working in boiler rooms, rooftops, or cold storage areas.

1. Physical Stamina – Sustaining energy for labor-intensive tasks over extended shifts.

1. Indoor & Outdoor Work – Maintaining hospital facilities, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.

1. Exposure to Hazards – Risk of electrical shocks, burns, slips, falls, or chemical exposure.

1. Noisy & Confined Spaces – Working in mechanical rooms, maintenance tunnels, or near loud equipment.

1. Fast-Paced & High-Stress Situations – Responding to urgent repairs, system failures, or safety hazards.

1. Interaction with Hospital Staff & Patients – Working in occupied areas while maintaining professionalism and discretion.

1. Shift Work & On-Call Duties – Potential night shifts, weekends, and emergency call-ins.

1. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Wearing gloves, goggles, masks, or protective clothing when handling chemicals or hazardous materials.

1. Varied Tasks & Environments – Handling plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and general repairs daily.
