Overview

 

The Operations Nurse provides direct care nursing to persons served as well as provides oversight of the medical and clinical operations of medically complex programs in conjunction with the Nurse Manager. Ensures proper standards and regulations are adhered to as set forth by the funding sources and that programs meet the quality standards and provide value to the public. Assures appropriate utilization of medical resources necessary for the delivery of quality medical care.

Responsibilities

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential job duties/responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the information listed below:

•Assists in the training of staff (C.N.A.s, LPNs) appropriate to the position. Utilizes staff appropriately with the goal of optimizing effort and providing necessary medical/nursing care.•Supports the Nurse Manager-BID in managing staff clinical performance. In conjunction with the PD, provides direction, training, and coaching; implements recognition and rewards programs.;•Completes comprehensive medication and documentation reviews on-site for persons served in accordance with MAP•Delegates care assignments with an understanding of staff roles, knowledge, and capabilities.Provides ongoing comprehensive assessment, care planning, interventions, and coordination/scheduling of care for individuals served.•Completes Nursing assessments for complex persons served as directed by the Nurse Manager and during vacancies.•Updates electronic health care records with medical documentation as needed•Participates in various internal and external meetings regarding treatment/support planning.•Provides outreach and creates environments in which family, friends, and established relationships of the person served can be fostered. Communicates with individuals and families in a manner that conveys respect, caring, and sensitivity.•Provides problem resolution for staff and persons served.•Fosters teamwork and leadership in work groups. Serves as, role model, and change agent.•Serves as a resource for program staff, family and friends of persons served, neighbors, public officials, and other providers.•Ensures program quality and achievement of goals and objective, as well as managing quality improvements.•Provides on-call back up and on-site support and intervention, when necessary.•Stores, administers, documents, and disposes of medication for persons served consistent with MassachusettsNursing Practice ACT and MAP requirements, funding source regulations, and Company policy. Ensures program compliance with Vinfen MAP protocols.•Maintains and enhances staff’s knowledge

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Nursing is preferred; Education or degree in another field may be considered as experience if relevant.
  • Must complete provided CPR training within 2 weeks of hire and provided Safety Care training within 90 days of hire
  • Valid LPN credentials in Massachusetts required.
  • May be asked to obtain CBIS (Certified Brain Injury Specialist)
  • Must be able to successfully pass a multistate CORI, reference check, employment verification, education and credentialing background check

Typical Requirements:

Minimum of 2 years’ nursing experience in acute or chronic care setting. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing practice, leadership abilities, and effective communication skills required. Preference will be given to candidates with significant experience in the human service field.

Preferred /Required Education:

Associate’s degree in Nursing is preferred; Education or degree in another field may be considered as experience if relavalent.

Driving Requirements:

 

Driving is a requirement for this position using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle. If using a personal vehicle, you must possess and maintain adequate insurance as well as maintain a safe driving record which is subject to annual checks. A valid driver's license must be presented at the time of employment. Incumbents must be at least 21 years of age, have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least one year, and must be able to pass a driver's screening background check.

Physical Effort:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb as this is a very physically active position. Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or the use of a two-person lift. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a calculator, copier, and printer. Ability to sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways. Ability to assist clients with tasks of daily living. Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time as needed. Ability to bend, reach, file, sit, stand, and move around the facility. Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives. Specific vision abilities required by thisjob include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.For positions in day programs or group residences, the ability to assist in routine living activities including cleaning, meal preparation, vacuuming, shoveling, and grocery shopping.
