About the Role and about You:

The GSE Maintenance Technician position is based out of Hawthorne, CA (HHR). The incumbent of this role is responsible for performing hands-on inspection, maintenance, and repair of all ground support equipment (GSE) and company vehicles, including tugs, belt loaders, GPUs, de-icers, air start units, and company vehicles, while also coordinating and tracking preventive maintenance schedules, vendor relationships, and compliance documentation to ensure maximum fleet availability, regulatory compliance, and safe operation across all stations.

You are a hands-on, mechanically-minded self-starter who is just as comfortable turning a wrench as you are keeping the bigger picture organized. You bring strong diagnostic and repair skills across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, along with the organizational skills to coordinate maintenance schedules, vendors, parts, and documentation across the full GSE fleet in a fast-paced airport environment.

What you will do:

  • Hands-On Maintenance and Repair: Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on all GSE and vehicles (tugs, belt loaders, GPUs, de-icers, fuel trucks, forklifts, air start units, company vehicles, etc.); diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues, including gas and diesel engines, transmissions, suspension and brake systems, aircraft air conditioning units, and ground power/air start units.
  • Maintenance Program Management: Develop, implement, and carry out preventive maintenance schedules for all GSE and vehicles (tugs, belt loaders, GPUs, de-icers, fuel trucks, forklifts, air start units, company vehicles, etc.) in accordance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Ramp Response and Downtime Management: Respond to equipment breakdowns on the ramp and provide timely repairs; coordinate and prioritize additional repair work, whether performed in-house or by outside vendors, to minimize equipment downtime and disruption to flight operations.
  • Asset Tracking: Maintain an accurate inventory and maintenance history for all GSE and vehicles, including service records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation, using a CMMS or equivalent tracking system; keep shop, tools, and parts inventory organized.
  • Training and Documentation: Ensure every piece of equipment has an associated training program or user guide covering safe operation and basic maintenance checks. Coordinate with department supervisors, who remain responsible for training their staff on assigned equipment and maintaining training records.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure all equipment meets FAA, OSHA, and company safety standards; maintain documentation for audits and inspections; enforce safe operating and maintenance practices.
  • Vendor and Contractor Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact with outside repair shops, parts suppliers, and equipment vendors to schedule work and resolve issues.
  • Reporting: Provide regular reports on fleet status, maintenance costs, downtime trends, and equipment lifecycle planning to leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned
