A premier continuing care retirement community in Westchester County, is seeking a skilled and motivated Sous Chef to help drive culinary excellence in a hospitality-forward senior living environment.
Reporting directly to the Director of Culinary Services, the Sous Chef is responsible for leading the kitchen team, overseeing daily food preparation, and ensuring that all meals are delivered with consistency, quality, and proper timing. This role plays a critical part in supporting the mission of The Knolls: to provide residents with outstanding dining experiences in a warm, respectful, and elegant environment.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and supervise cooks and kitchen staff during prep, production, and service

Expedite service during peak meal periods, ensuring accuracy, plating standards, and timeliness

Monitor food quality and consistency across all stations

Assist in recipe execution, menu adherence, and portion control

Support daily prep lists and kitchen organization to ensure smooth service

Maintain high standards of kitchen sanitation, safety, and compliance with DOH regulations

Communicate effectively with the culinary director and front-of-house team to ensure seamless service

Qualifications
Qualifications
-
3+ years of experience as a line cook or sous chef in a high-volume or hospitality setting

Experience in senior living, healthcare, or institutional dining a plus

Strong leadership and communication skills

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed

Culinary degree or relevant certification preferred

ServSafe certification required or must be obtained upon hire
