SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

MANAGER, NETWORK OPERATIONS CENTER

Work with brilliant, passionate engineers to tackle difficult problems and maintain the critical networks that power SpaceX’s missions — launching satellites, delivering cargo and crew to the International Space Station, and advancing humanity’s future in space. Join the team responsible for operating and optimizing the high-performance communication networks that enable SpaceX’s most ambitious achievements.

The successful NOC Manager builds, leads, and inspires teams of engineers, technicians, administrators, and analysts to monitor, troubleshoot, and rapidly resolve network issues while developing tools, automation, and processes to maintain, evolve, and scale SpaceX’s advanced networks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead teams of network administrators, engineers, analysts, and technicians to develop, implement, and scale Network Operations processes and tools across SpaceX
  • Oversee the Network Operations Center, including incident management, change control, and continuous improvement of network reliability and performance
  • Partner with development and engineering teams to drive design-for-operations, incorporate debugging tools and strategies, and ensure networks are built for observability and operational excellence
  • Own the overall SpaceX network operational experience and advocate for rapid problem resolution across internal teams
  • Ensure network emergency response processes are well-documented, and minimize operational impact
  • Drive the design and implementation of enterprise operational processes, playbooks, systems, and bespoke engineered solutions
  • Implement and maintain rigorous change management, verification, and validation processes through automation and controls
  • Communicate effectively with peers, business partners, and leadership on network status, incidents, and operational performance
  • Build strong relationships with internal engineering, support, and infrastructure teams to obtain logs/metrics and improve network operations
  • Facilitate cross-training and mentorship across multidisciplinary teams with varied engineering backgrounds
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top operations talent; manage career development, conduct performance evaluations, and build a high-performing team
  • Monitor operations workload and effectively manage resources and budget to meet tactical and strategic objectives
  • Develop and train direct reports to take product and operational ownership while making risk-conscious decisions under pressure
  • Maintain a positive and constructive attitude in the face of complex technical and operational challenges

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, engineering, computer science, or other technical discipline and 5+ years of experience in network operations or 7+ years of professional hands-on experience supporting network operations in lieu of a degree
  • 3+ years leading multidisciplinary teams, projects, or programs
  • Experience leading technical teams in a network operations capacity

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in a technical or engineering discipline
  • Cisco, Juniper, or other industry certifications (networking)
  • Experience with Python, SQL, and/or bash scripting for network automation
  • Deep understanding of service provider and enterprise network technologies, including:
  • Experience with connectivity (Ethernet, WiFi, WDM, IPv4 and IPv6), switching (MPLS, QinQ), routing (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS), subscriber management (BNG, RADIUS/AAA, QoS, BSS/OSS integration), and internet services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, NAT, etc.)
  • Experience working with software-defined networking (SDN) and/or network function virtualization (NFV)
  • Strong knowledge and troubleshooting experience with common enterprise and service provider network devices
  • Demonstrated experience improving network operations tooling, monitoring, procedures, and overall operational efficiency
  • Excellent technical communication and documentation skills
