JOB SUMMARY

 

The Multimodality Technologist I is assigned to work in at least 2 modalities. Must possess a certification in Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and/or Radiation Therapy and must be cross-training in CT or possess the CT certification. Assist physicians in the performance of diagnostic and / or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and operating the imaging equipment in order to obtain diagnostic images. Integrates scientific knowledge and technical skills with effective patient interaction to provide quality patient care and useful diagnostic information.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Graduate from an accredited Radiology program.

 

Experience:

2 years of experience in diagnostic radiology preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. 

 

Licensure:

Must possess a certification in Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and/or Radiation Therapy (ARRT and/or NMTCB) and either be cross-training in CT or possess the CT certification. Registry eligible technologists must successfully complete the ARRT CT certification exam within 1 year of hire.

 

Additional Skills/Requirements Required:

Thorough knowledge of radiographic equipment and accessories. Analytical ability and basic computer skills. Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s) age. Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs. Good communication skills, capable of functioning alone in diagnostic rooms, working knowledge of various types of x-ray equipment, able to adapt to various situations and procedures. Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly.

  • Patient Care: Ensures patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department.
    • Explains the procedure and post-procedure orders to the patient to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
    • Prioritizes workflow in regard to patient condition and ensures patients’ arrival and departure occur in a timely manner.
    • Provides an atmosphere conducive to gain the patient's cooperation and confidence.
    • Adheres to as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) standards.
    • Utilizes data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process.
  • Compliance: Follows and supports OSHA regulations and uses universal precautions when required.
    • Cleans examination surfaces between patients.
    • Provides clean linen including sheets, gowns, pillowcases, and towels.
    • Immediately cleans spills following universal precautions.
    • Properly stores accessory equipment when not in use
  • Teamwork: Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.
    • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
    • Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings.
  • Technical Competency: : Follows routine standards and properly and safely manipulates equipment, within its limitations, to obtain images.
    • Maintains sterile fields and equipment integrity throughout procedures, adhering to infection prevention standards.
    • Adjusts diagnostic equipment to achieve appropriate density, contrast, and anatomical detail, ensuring diagnostic quality.
    • Performs required warm-up routines and quality control checks prior to use, documenting any variances or malfunctions.
    • Follows established imaging protocols to visualize internal structures, modifying technique only when clinically indicated.
    • Critiques acquired images for clarity, positioning, and completeness; determines the need for repeat imaging based on clinical and technical criteria.

 

 

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical Demand Code: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
